Switching bits from one bike to a new frame

I have been trying to sell my FS kona bike for a while and no one seems to want it. So I am looking to buy a new frame and transfer everything over to make a bike for my youngest son (age 8 and 5' 2". I know the 16" may be a bit big for him but he is confident riding my bike.

Can i switch everything over wheels, brakes, chainset, forks etc with no real hassle.

Headsets and Bottom brackets may need changing, how oldies the kona?

Things to check would be the headset size, b/b size and seat tube size - also assume that the Kona has disc brakes and not v-brakes, otherwise you will need to invest in some brakes. Can't tell from the piccie, but you might also need a rear mech hanger.

You might need a handful of tools - certainly a BB tool for example, and a headset press and crown race remover, although these can be substituted for a hammer and screwdriver if you're careful.

You'll certainly need new inner and outer gear cables throughout assuming the Kona has hydraulic discs - if not you'll need brake cables too.

steerer tube should be an OK length as long as it's not silly short.

front mech might be a different diameter as might the seatpost as mentioned.

hydraulic brake cables might need shortening if you want to do a good job.

I did the same as you last year and found I needed a wider bottom bracket as I went from a 68mm BB tube to a 73mm. Also had to replace front mech, seat post and seat post clamp.

I'd have thought the cube is unlikely to be a 27.2mm post, but worth asking CRC. alternatively On one do plenty of frames with that seat tube dia. Also consider second hand. Singtrackworld classifieds sees plenty of frames going through at not a lot of money. They often come with headsets/front mechs/seat posts to make things easier.

On One might not work as they have long top tubes in proportion to the seat tube.

As for the Cube frame being reduced, looking at the cost of the whole bike would suggest that the full price cost is a bit exaggerated.

27.2mm seat tube on this one, £80 less, short TT. Although other frames could be shimmed if they are 30.9 etc.
