Best ride so far...

Went out for a hilly ride from Bournemouth to (nearly) Shaftesbury and back this morning.

Just over 46 miles at an average of 17.8mph, with 1827' of climbs (mostly in the first 25 miles)

Where's the big hill?

I did more or less the same on Saturday am did the route all the way into Shaftesbury and back along the same route rather than a loop, zig zag is a bit sharp on the way back up the otherside but i've got a triple and just span up it at 8mph in the granny ring. Good average btw , I managed 16.1mph was my first 50 miler.

I'm impressed by this, I'm only banging out 20 mile runs around West Yorkshire (lots of hills) after my first week in the saddle. I'll be doing these type of runs soon however right now, this looks impressive

The big hill is just south of Shaftesbury, it has two routes one longer/easier which amnesia went down (I went up) and one shorter/harder some great views from the top, check out the pics on my 40 miler a couple of weeks back.

The other side of the hill into Shaftesbury is called zig zag and is like a mini alpine climb (10%) and a few switchback hairpins.

I did a similar but shorter run on Saturday, 23.5 miles which took me an hour and 50 mins (average speed of 12.7 mph)

I think it is definitely time for me to get a road bike, the MTB is holding me back

The bottom of the 'big hill' is a village called Tollard Royal

It does get quite steep, quite quickly, but it's over in 5 minutes.
