I'm trying to figure out what the problem may be. Its not specific to what pedals/shoes or whether im using cleats or not as its happened on my MTB as well as my road bike, but I do tend to get quite a nagging pain in the base of my foot after about 20-25 minutes into a ride. It only seems to be my left foot. Anyone else had similar?

It could be down to the angle of the foot, I had to put some washers under the cleat on my right shoe to angle it slightly higher at the ball of the foot
Confused about getting it with flat shoes on MTB though, you could try raising the insole I guess

My right foot, or specifically my outside 3 toes, go numb after a couple of miles on the road bike.

I spoke to Mike at Velomotion, who set my bike up, and he suggested a few things... One of which was to use Specialized BG Footbeds. I put these in last Thursday and went for a ride. If anything the numbness was worse, and there was pain as well! On Friday I added a 1.5mm Valgus shim to the right foot as well (these come with the footbeds) and went for a short ride. I found a definite improvment with it in.

However it's still not perfect. It's really bugging me as it's stopping me doing longer rides and was the reason I din't do L2B this year. I might well see about moving the cleats a little, as this was also suggested.

How very coincidental. I was going to start a topic very similar to this this morning.

I get a pain right across the arch of my right foot (on the sole) after only a couple of kilometres. Seems much worse on static exercise bike / x-bike in the gym.

Try moving your cleats back. It's a trick lots of randonneurs use. I was getting numb/hot foot problems on 200km rides before I moved them back. Had none at 300 and 600 since I moved them back.

I use mtb spds. I'm on the rear set of holes, and about 1/2 a cm away from the back of the cutouts. Some people ram them right back. If you try it, remember to drop your saddle accordingly.

I'll take a look later to see what I'm running. I'm new to cleats and bought the Shimano MTB pedals but I'm starting to wonder if i'd be better served with a larger footbed from either the A540 or R540 pedals.
