Cycling deals at Lidl again....

Not much for me in that lot, except for the floor/track pump, and maybe the glasses - they are almost 'disposable' at that price. Other members may be more interested in the rest of the offerings. As an aside, I looked at a very similar pump in Tesco today, at £15, so the Lidl price would seem to offer good VFM. I need a second pump, so that I don't have to keep lugging the one I have back and forth between Essex and Hampshire, leaving the rest of the family without a decent pump all week.

Bloody hell. That's good value. I realised, again, this morning that I've left my Joe Blow at Gretch's and need a pump for this week so I can get out on the Boardman whilst at mine... As you say, it will help with not needing to lug one about. For me it was getting a fly stuck in my eye several miles from home. I've worn eye protection ever since and have had several insects deflected so think it well worth while!I'm also conscious of the fact that cars flick stone chippings up easily from the road so appreciate a bit of protection against that, and also from the mud chucked up by my tyres when I'm off road.

Definitely the bug thing for me. I'm not as seasoned a rider as you guys but the first time back on my bike getting a bug in my eye was enough to make me buy some the next day. I got a couple of the shirts and some bungee cords.

I didn't think this weeks variety/choice was as good as their previous ones tbh. Bit more basic. Picked up the pump which looks good. Liked the look of the lock - might grab one tomorrow as I've been borrowing one. That bike lock is a sturdy b

In the past I've bought shorts & shirts (in choice of colours & styles) as spares, as well as the waterproof cycling jacket and some spare fingerless gel gloves, and some fairly decent cycling socks too. Picked up the cycling computer last time for just a few quid including batteries - is great, very precise too. None of that seemed to be available this time.

Big caveat on that there floor pump. In a rush to get there and back in my lunch time, I just made a 'smash and grab' style trip. Picked up a long sleeved blue jersey (a bit tight in medium!), some of the 'waterproof' gloves, a pair of the glasses, and THAT floor pump.
On unwrapping said pump, I did the usual bloke thing, looked it over, then immediately connected it up and inflated my tyres to 140psi. No problem so far. Then I decided to tidy up the packaging, and only then did I read the back of the packaging card for the pump. This is where the problem lies. The LARGE print makes claim as to the psi rating of the pressure gauge (it displays to over 200psi, I think). HOWEVER, if you read the small print, the pump itself is rated around 86psi with a tested overpressure of around the 116psi mark. No problem so far, but if I keep using it to inflate tyres to 140psi, will it be sufficiently over-engineered to survive the abuse? The obvious solution long-term will be to swap this new pump with the one I have at home in Hampshire, as no-one else in the family rides a bike with tyres rated over 90psi, but this would be rather annoying for someone who bought this item as their sole floor pump for a road bike running high pressures in their tyres. All I'm saying is be sure to read the small print, as when you look at the numbers on the gauge it suggests a high pressure pump. The truth is that, much like the optimistic speedo on my diesel Vectra, the machine itself isn't quite so capable.

I got the Aldi pump (very similar I think) and that blew on my 3rd use of it. I then bought a Bontrager from Evans and it's been perfect.
I've got a Zefal floor standing pump and it's been perfect putting mine up to 100psi for about two years. Decathlon, £12 iirc. Gassing Station | Pedal Powered | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
