Hi guys,

I've just won this bike on eBay:

HERE

As you can see, the auction doesn't contain any info apart from calling it a Rocky Fortune.

Here's a pic for those who can't see eBay:

Can anyone help identify it? I pick it up tomorrow, so just want to know if I've grabbed a bargain, or (more than likely) been robbed blind!!

Thanks for your help

Depends what you want it for, if it's a bike for tootling about on it's a good price. It will however be like riding a boat anchor looking at it

Hmmm a boat anchor you say...bugger! Any particular reason?

To be honest, haven't picked up a bike in a few years, so looking for a good opportunity to start riding again.

Not expecting miracles for under £100, just hope it's a half decent ride!

The fact that even a cursory google (for "Rocky Fortune" & bike) throws up nothing tells you everything you need to know. This leads me to believe it's probably a no name bike supplied by a supermarket for £99. Not a bargain I'd suggest unless they paid you to take it to the local dump.

Edit in addition looking at the fact this is the first bought or sold item for the individual ID and there are a couple of 0 & 5 ID history bids on it. What in the world of normal sensibilities possibly possessed you to bid on it?

Hmmm, well I suppose I'll find out tomorrow. Although the 0 and 5 ID bids don't concern me too much, they were from the same people, and the last bids were from other more established users.

If it doesn't look like that when I turn up tomorrow, or doesn't match the description, I'll reject it...

Sorry to tell you, but it looks like at best you've brought something you could have picked up from the local dump for £91, at worst you've been had. Caveat emptor I think the phrase goes.

Do sub £100 bikes come with hydroformed frames these days? Blimey.

Just look at the lovely swoops on the top & down tubes.

Although i frown heavily on this, i just wouldnt go, save yourself the time and energy.

I recently bought a completely useable and surprisingly good condition Specialized stumpjumper hardtail off the bay for £100, i use it all the time due to it being my only bike and it is excellent and snaps at the heels of many a more expensive super duper megabike. It is also lightweight so it proves bargains are there to be had.

Stick to the bigger makes and you wont really go too far wrong.

purely on the basis of the rusty stem spacers and the nasty plastic pedals, i too would say its a supermarket special. if no money has changed hands, my advice would be to forget about it, take the negative feedback on the chin and look for something far better.

just search for a trek, marin, gt or specialised hardtail. you might have to get a rigid bike for the money but it will be far, far better. there are likely to be a few around for the money you have paid.

cheap bikes are just awful, especially cheap full suspension bikes...

Arse arse and arse again.

Supposed to be picking it up tomorrow, so no money has changed hands.

I didn't realise it looked like such a "supermarket special" as you guys think.

Hmmm, I may have to send a grovelling email.

To be honest, I'm not fussed about full suss...it caught my eye because it wasn't the usual Y frame bike I associated full suss with, I thought the faux-bar styles were usually much more expensive.

As I said, I've been out of biking for a while....furious

I disagree with the other posters, it doesn't look that st. It certainly doesn't look like a £99 special (threadless headset, cable disk brakes, decent paint job).

I'd buy and try it and if necessary re-ebay.

I wonder if this is the same bike manufacturer?

Looks like some quite tasty kit. As above though I'd pick the bike up, give it a go and if its no good just re-ebay.

That is absolutely nothing to do with Rocky Mountain

I'm afraid that's a supermarket shed that will weigh a ton

What are you basing this on? It doesn't appear to be a Rocky Mountain but I've never seen a supermarket bike with this rear suspension design. There's too many pivots to make it super cheap.

ORLY?

A 'Lamborghini' 4-link bike, weighing in at a stonking 17kg (you can get a Jeep branded one too!). I don't hold out much hope for the OPs bike (which looks like it also has generic V-Brake wheels on it).

Still £240 mind.

The point is that the OP was worried that he'd been ripped off and the posts above seem to suggest that he's made a terrible mistake. It may not be the height of sophistication but I don't think it's as crap as some posters are making out, especially as it's extremely difficult to tell from such a poor quality photo.

The back of this month's Mountain Bike Rider magasine has Canadian mountain bikes, I say this as one of the brands is Rocky Mountain, and the bikes seem real, the rear suspension looks like the real deal not some crap spring etc. Go take a look for £100 you may have picked up a good solid but older bike.

As the Kato said a few posts above, this isn't a Rocky Mountain - if you look at all their 4-link bikes, they use a different shock, and the geo is all totally different.
