Just bought some SPDs and for the last couple of days have been getting used to them..All going well until this morning..

So I get to work, pull up outside the lobby entrance…completely forgetting I'm clipped in…

Go to put my left foot down...oh bugger....Fall sideways into the lobby with bike on top of me – it was like the scene from only fools and horses where he falls through the bar.. Was wetting myself laughing as its pretty embarrassing.

How long will it take to become second nature in clipping out, as I've got a massive egg shaped bruise on my left elbow at the moment ! hehe

Right of passage duly passed, now if you do it again then I'd be worried.

I think after that moment it'll become 2nd nature. I did something similar at a set of traffic lights once. Haven't had another moment where I've been unable to get my foot down in time. Well, I'm away to go out soon, so sods law dictates that I'll make an arse of myself somehow today.

You're allowed to do it twice - once each side biggrin

Because, I was taught to always unclip the same side - that way you always know what you'll be doing when coming up to lights etc. However, I overbalanced, and so fell on to my still clipped in side. Plonker hehe

I've done it a couple of times, last one was when approaching lights I unclipped, but accidentally clipped back in at the last second, ouch...

I do it all the time. Best one was when reading a map with mates, I only unclipped one foot and went to spread the map, leaned over and disappeared...

Que huge laughing!

I've almost done it stationary and with one foot unclipped a few times!! I overbalance slightly and, of course, don't have the foot on the right to counter balance. Not done it yet, but come close!

Yep - my right of passage was onto the bonnet of a Saab at traffic lights on the very first ride out on my SPDs. Luckily it belonged to another cyclist who was more concerned about me than his car, then told me that it was indeed a right of passage.

My second was into a load of bramble bushes though, and because the bike landed on me, I struggled to get unclipped and back up. Such is the way of my MTB mates, they had to stop laughing before they helped me up smile

One of my mates keeps trying to get me to fit SBDs to my mountain bike. If he stopped falling over every time he stops unexpectedly I'd be more convinced.
So far every time we've been out on the bikes he's fallen at least once, usually at low speed when he hits a rock or root while climbing and the bike stops before he can un-clip.

Took bikes on recent holiday to France and me with my newly acquired SPDs and shoes. First time I came to stop forgot about unclipping and over I went. Next ride stopped for the rest of family before starting a big hill, clipped one shoe in and set off, but had no momentum and fell over again! I've slackened them right off now and give the pedals a quick squirt with GT85 before setting off now. Think I need to try the multiple release cleats next !
