Ideas for a new road bike

Im looking for a new road bike, having had an accident on my old bike (and now planning to retire it to a single speed commuting tool). Im planning to spend up to around £2500.
The sort of riding I'll be doing on this bike is evening / weekend pleasure jaunts, I average 19 - 21mph dependant on conditions and do ~100 miles a week (always looking to challenge myself and get faster but not really interested in racing others).
My choice of bike would be a Pinarello FP Quattro (kinda heavy wheels, ultegra groupset, racy frame, great service from LBS on this option)
Alternatives might be:
Storck Scenero (great reviews, anyone ridden one?)
Colnago Ace (comfier, but 'only' '105' or equivalent at this price point?)
Wilier Izoard (heard not so great things about the 2011 models)
Cannondale Super Six variant (less money than others with ultegra and decent wheels, never seen / ridden one though)
If anyone has any thoughts Id be really keen to hear about them!

Highly regarded bikes/frames with Dura Ace (bar cassette & brakes), decent and bombproof wheel, good finishing kit, good looks (particularly in matt black) and under budget too. What's not to love?

Moda Stretto?
Not ridden one but it gets glowing reviews.
Argon 18 Krypton?
Have ridden one (back when it was the top of the range Gallium) and it was quite mindblowing. I love my Look 566, and it's the perfect bike for the riding I do, but the Gallium is something else. Stiff, fast, the acceleration is mental, corners like a housefly. If I ever man up enough to consider road racing, Argon 18 will be where my money is heading.
Disclaimer: My road bike experience is limited to the Look, Boardman, a Felt AR5 (also nice) and an old Alan, so my opinions are probably worth nowt.

Ive actually found a LBS that stocks the Moda so Im going to go and have a look tomorrow or monday, really do like the look of that wheelset And Ill absolutely do some research on the Canyon, thats a great shout. Seems like it would be comfy enough for longer rides too

Seems like it would be comfy enough for longer rides too I like the idea of the Cannondale at this price, the frame is meant to be excellent and all the kit is good with the exception of the wheels which let it down. That tends to be the problem even at this sort of price, bikes usually have wheelsets that sell for maybe £150...
That Moda looks great value though as the wheels retail at £500!! I've looked at their bikes at an LBS recently and they seem to be very well designed.

for £2500 you would be mad to get an off the shelf bike. had a look around a BMC at Evans yesterday whilst i was looking for a bento box http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bmc/pro-machin...
RRP was £2200 for 105 and fulcrum 7s (wheels that you can buy for £150?!?!? are they having a laugh?) yes its a nice frame, obviously stiff as a stiff thing but its just so overpriced compared to building your own, for the same money you could be riding a van nicholas ti frame (perfect for the sort of riding you describe) on ultegra (groupsets from merlin et al) and running some pretty awesome wheels as well as a good spec finishing kit.
if gettinga shop to build up parts you order and buy yourself sounds too much like hard work, i would go for a look 566 from epic cycles or save a massive wedge and get a planet x superlight.

Totally agree. I've got the Look 566 with SRAM Rival. Love it to pieces, and having ridden bikes with Red, Dura-ace and Record I can't see that I would notice any tangible benefits of having a "better" groupset on it.dubbs said:

i guess the cost means that few peoiple have any personal experience of them but i havent heard a bad word about them, if i was in the market for a carbon bike, the S1 would be very near the top of the list... just behind the Look!

+1 Plus if you're canny you can find real deals around.I built up my Cervelo S2 (second hand frame) with Durace 7800 and 7950 crankset all in for about £1500. To build it all new would have been approx £4-5K

There were loads of Cervelos at the Docklands Tri yesterday, they look awesome with huge Zipps on

It's a lovely lovely bike to ride. Always wanted one tbh. Got some 50mm Carbon tubs on and the ride is lovely. Climbs well (compact with 11-28) and descends like a demon...hahah. I've swapped the stem for the 3T version now.There were loads of Cervelos at the Docklands Tri yesterday, they look awesome with huge Zipps on
Did a 50 miler before my knee op in April and was sublime. Just getting back on it and did 30 miles at the weekend no problem. If you ever get the chance, get one
