Cycling trip..
Discussion
Me and a mate have decided to go for a little adventure on the bikes. Never really rode more than 20 miles in a day and that was a good few years back. We're both 19 so young and would say we're fairly fit, not athletes by a long way though!
Thinking of riding for a day, camping, riding for another day, camping the night then making our way home..
What's a realistic distance to set ourselves?

I think you could probably surprise yourselves and cover a lot more than 25 miles on road in a day. If you've got a whole day to play with then double that figure and you'll still have time for a leisurely pub lunch somewhere.
You'll feel it the next day if you aren't cycling regularly though!

If you're touring, sightseeing and navigating figure on about 10mph average.
Therefore 10am-lunch-evening should give you a range of at least 40-50miles even if you aren't pushing on (Might be worth getting some cycle shorts though)
The limitation on distance for beginners is comfort if not used to long days in the saddle.
If you know the area and are able to push on you'll be surprised how far you can get over a whole day (just make sure you're able to ride home the next day! :-)
