Click/crack noise....

Every now and again when I go over a pothole/crack I've not managed to miss I'll get a crack/click noise from the carbon that quite frankly worries me. Could be normal, might be a problem.

The bike is ok, no signs of any cracks or damage on the front forks/stem/etc.,

Anyone else with a full carbon setup get similar? Only happens when it's a proper jolt.

I get some horrible bangs from the carbon wheels, but that's about it.

Any movement in the headset? Or maybe worth going over each major joint to disassemble, clean and reassemble with some paste?

My advice would be to grease the points where the spokes cross eachother, and also drip light oil on the spoke nipples, and where they meet the rim.

That's where my clicks come from.

I used to get similar: I've sourced it to the saddle rails flexing from the increased force on it when you go over bumps and holes.
Just make sure the seat post and saddle are on nice and tight.
I'd also closely inspect the frame at all of the joints just in case.

I took out my seat, and rubbed a couple of drops of winter chain lube on the post, before replacing it and tightening it up. Stopped it creaking over every tiny bump. Worth a try.

Almost impossible to diagnose over the internet as there are so many moving parts. Go around and check everything is tight and no play, ensure everything is lubed that should be lubed. Also check the bottom bracket area of the frame for any hairline cracks

Thanks guys definitely from the front of the bike and will monitor closely - might be from the stem which is carbon.

Definitely not the bottom bracket - checked before but if you saw the size of that area on an S3 you'd see where I'm coming from when I say it's probably the toughest and stiffest part of the frame

The stem on my Scott R3 makes a bit of a creaking noise sometimes, usually cured by just tightening it up a fraction.

I have just fixed a creaking noise on my bike, with some help.
At first I thought it was the chainring bolts, but I tightened them and it was still there.
I was horrified when I thought it might be the forks but it turns out that it was actually coming from the headset. Just needed some grease.

more likely the seat post - get some carbon assembly paste (about £5 from your LBS!

Definitely not seatpost - think it's the stem and the jolt through the bars - not keen on overtightening the bolts on it though as it's carbon.
