Xt 760 rear hub

I know this is an old(ish) rear hub, but since when did lock nuts have to be undone with cone spanners?! 

I chose the hub as I am quite old and like to service parts as opposed to replacing. Therefore, one cone spanner was always enough. This hub has  (from what I can see is 17mm) a lock nut which is only undone by another cone spanner, not a 17mm normal spanner.

Is this right or am I missing something?

M10 16mm and M10 9mm cone spanner required by the looks of things.

Well, looks like the lock ring is a cone spanner then, of to the shop....Thanks.
