REPORT: HINCAPIE TELLS FEDS ARMSTRONG USED PEDS
A report by “60 Minutes” says George Hincapie, a longtime member of Lance Armstrong’s inner circle, has told federal authorities he saw the seven-time Tour de France winner use performance-enhancing drugs.
A segment of the report aired Friday night on the “CBS Evening News,” one day after it broadcast an interview with another former member of Armstrong’s U.S. Postal Service team, Tyler Hamilton, who said he also used PEDs with Armstrong.
Hincapie has often been depicted as one of Armstrong’s most loyal teammates and was with him for all seven Tour victories. In an interview last year, Armstrong said Hincapie was “like a brother to me.”
Armstrong has never tested positive and has steadfastly denied doping.
“60 Minutes” will air its piece on the Armstrong investigation at 6 p.m. Sunday.

I don't think that Lance doped, he was tested so much it was beyond belief. Now Contador....hmmm out time trialing Spartacus and more recently sprinting away from a specialist hill climber in the Giro.

Bertie won the time trial around Lake Annecy in the 2009 Tour, beating Spartacus into 2nd place.

Armstrong tested positive for Cortisone during the 99 Tour. Just saying wink

TBH, if George is prepared to say it under oath to the Grand Jury I suspect it may well be true. Whether there's any evidence of all this 12 years on is another matter.

If you have time, read

FWIW, Surviving Cancer is amazing, to win the Tour 7 times and be clean? Not sure I believe.

Oh and who saw the guy with the beef on a fishing rod in front of Bertie today? laugh

In the TdF 2009, last years TT was much more reflective. My point about the specialist climber was in the Giro a few days ago.

Do you think they will let Contador in the TdF this year?

I'm afraid that I'm firmly in the non-believer camp now. The drip drip effect of the evidence coming out and of what we already know, his close association with Dr Ferrari and suspect payments to the UCI. As far as the allegation Hincapie is making, I don't think George is the sort of bloke to bullst these sort of things, however the thing that really casts a bit doubt in my mind about Armstrong's achievements, is the picture below of him racing with Jan Ullrich in 2003. It was the year Ullrich came in bang on the money in terms of form - easily the most talented rider of his generation. Both he and Armstrong 'trouser-pressed' the Alpes and Pyrenees, no-one could get near them - not only was Ullrich in the form of his life, he was also doped to the eyeballs. I just cannot see how a clean Lance Armstrong would beat a doped Jan Ullrich.

P.s. Bertie - aka Alberto Contador.

"Cyclingnews attempted to contact both Hincapie and his BMC racing team but all calls went unanswered. He said on Twitter, "I can confirm to you I never spoke with 60 Minutes. I have no idea where they got their information.""

I don't personally believe Armstrong doped and I am not so sure Hincapie actually said what has been alleged.

Clever response by GH,. He spoke to the Grand Jury. Not the media. Of course, if that infor was leaked out somehow he could say "not me Guv"

It does seem a bit "Why let the truth get in the way of a good story?". rolleyes

With no evidence to say Lance doped all we have is hearsay from two discredited riders and a TV Channel that alleges they have a story from a rider who's denied ever speaking to them. Fishier than a packet of scampi fries and a used Femfresh Wipe in a wehouse in the middle of Grimsby market until proved otherwise IMO.

Yeh I know I watched it. That specialist hill climber also got beaten by about 5 other blokes today, including someone who's not a climber, so that argument is out of the window really.

Although none of his competition has written books to compare them, reading LA's biography made me realise just how driven he was, and how much testing and "surprise" testing he was subjected to.

Not only was he out there training in all weathers when others would call it a day, there is no way he could be doping AND pass all the tests they threw at him. Doping doesn't make you superhuman so just because his competion was, doesn't mean LA was too. He was just *that* much better.

If ever it is proven he was doping I shall be sorely disappointed. I want so much to believe that a person can achieve what he did on the strength of his will alone.

I cannot believe people actually think LA was clean. He routinely beat the most juiced up riders in history which is not possible unless at least equally juiced. All that stuff about training harder is horse st. Armstrong is the church of scientology of the peleton, dodgy as frigg but somehow still legal.

funny how its only self confessed dopers who are coming out to the press with claims of armstrongs doping and no one else? all with books to sell, with a conscience to try and reclaim or personal solace to find?...

as for armstrong himself, its clear that the cancer treatment had some form of effect on his body but i still dont think he is guilty of anything other than a disciplined and scietifcally created training schedule. people always forget that in his prime, he practically went AWOL for 49 weeks of the year, popping up for three weeks in France every July. His life was dedicated to the TdF, its pretty much all he did, no wonder he was able to destroy the others, who were riding in the worlds, the spring classics, the giro, the vuelta....

Hincapie, Landis et al are simply deluding themselves with the belief that, because Lance could stay with them even though they were doping, armstrong must have been doping too...... only he wasnt.

Show me Hincapie's book sales motivation? Or just motivation in general.

It's very simple. People are either with Armstrong or against him. You either accept that LA doped because at the time a great majority of the Peleton did. And he couldn't possibly have beaten them without a little extra. Of course that Cortison test FAIL was because of saddle sores??? rolleyes

OR

You beleive he is innocent and almost certainly believe in God and Jesus and all that other bks laugh
