About to buy a Canyon Nerve XC 7 - any comments?

Having researched for weeks I am about to take the plunge and order a Canyon Nerve XC 7 full sus:

My riding will be mostly XC stuff around Yorkshire and the occasional trail centre, and this bike seems to fit the bill perfectly. Brilliant spec for the price and light at around 27 lbs.

So yay or nay?

Not ridden one myself but all reviews and comments I've seen have been fantastic. If I was in the market for a new bike I think I'd be getting a Canyon of some description as the bang per buck is unbeatable for a new bike and the designs appear to be well sorted.

One of my riding buddies has just got his (the same bike in the link) and it's a loverly bit of kit looks very well made with a good spec for the money also it's very light.

Just ordered an XC7 in metallic forest green. Tough choice as I really like the black, but fancied something a bit different. Plus my current bike is black.

Looks like an interesting colour, good choice! Only heard great things about Canyon bikes- post some pics up when it arrives! Be interesting to see that colour in a proper photo. Definately considering one as my next bike.

The size/spec/colour combination I went for means I've still got 3 weeks to go (out of 8 weeks in all). The wait is killing me, trying to spend the time putting some miles in on the old bike finding new routes and getting fit!

Bike has been dispatched. Should arrive on Thursday. Just in time for the Bank holiday weekend. Can't wait !

The bike finally arrived today. It came direct from Germany via UPS (so I could track it's progress on-line) and arrived in a fairly tough and sturdy cardboard box. Inside everything was packed carefully and the delicate areas were either bubble-wrapped or kept apart with cardboard spacers.

Only the wheels, handlebars and seat/post needed attaching. The forks were deflated and so were pumped up using the supplied shock pump. All pretty straightforward really, though this is my first 'proper' MTB so I did follow the instructions to be honest. The manual is comprehensive and includes the requisite torque setting for all bolts on the bike. There was a free torque allen key (not sure of it's technical name) to ensure the correct settings were made when attaching the handlebars.

All in all looks a very nice bike in the flesh. I was a bit concerned having not seen one in the flesh, but I really like the metallic green finish. The size seems spot on, though I'll have to wait until the weekend to test it.

I'll write a proper review with photos once I've ridden a few trails.

I've only ridden it twice so far - a 20 mile XC route in North Yorkshire and a 30 mile night ride, but initial impressions are very good. Bare in mind my previous bike was a 2005 Hard Rock (hardtail with basic suntour forks), so that's my reference point.

It's pretty light at 27 lbs. It climbs really well without any noticable bob even with pro pedal off. The Fox forks are excellent, although I'll probably take a while to get the set-up just right.

I'm doing Mountain Mayhem this weekend, so I'll come back with a proper review after that !

I've had my Nerve XC 7 for a couple of weeks.



Absolutely no complaints so far, it arrived on the day they said in perfect condition and was simple to put together. The quality of the manuals and other literature is great. Mine (an XL in black) was available for immediate dispatch, and took six working days from order to delivery. Before order I had a couple of questions so phoned the UK service centre who were really helpful. All in all a thoroughly impressive service.

I'm a newbie to MTBs but so far I'm astonished by its capabilities. It climbs much better than I expected without any noticeable bouncing, and its agility and ability to absorb the bumps of our local tracks is amazing. My mates who have much more experience and ability than I are equally impressed.

I'm looking to buy the Nerve XC 6 but the sizing is stopping me ordering right away.

Went through their configurator on the web site and it suggested a medium frame.

I'm 6ft1.5 (186cm) and spoke to their telephone people about it who said there was a known issue specifically with the Nerve range and their software tool not giving good outputs.

Interested in any comments about sizing from people who have these bikes - i'm guessing L frame will be OK but I'm on the borderline of XL. I guess the L will be a bit quicker steering so as long as i'm not cramped up in that then it should be ok.

Any help/comments around sizing or the bikes themselves appreciated !!

Re Sizing the pic of the 6.0 shows a zero offset seat post & a reasonably long stem (90mm ish), so things to play with there, ask what your bike will come with in terms of seat post and stem length on a large and if you think you can manipulate it within the confines of that then you should be ok. I'm 6'2" and no way I'd fit a medium of any frame unless it was a 29er. Out of preference I'd want to get a large to fit rather than stretch yourself over an XL (even with a 50mm stem and your seat rammed forward), trust me I've done this on my current Hardtail and a bike slightly too big brings to many limitations in the technical stuff.
