My first 'proper' MTB

I've just purchased myself a Specialized Hardrock Pro, in fact me and the Mrs. got one each, me a red one and hers in black.
We've both been doing a fair bit of riding over the past 12 months, me on my hybrid and her on a steel framed mid 90s GT MTB thats too small for her! We'd started to progress onto more challenging terrain from the canal towpaths we'd started out on and it was evident that our bikes were holding us back a bit so new bikes were in order.
We got them from Evans after trying out a few others and £500 each was our budget (originally £400!) in the end we went £50 over budget and the guy did us a deal at £1100 for the pair, so a saving of £50 per bike and they chucked in a set of lights for us each too.
Only let down is that mine didn't have the red wheels the demo bike had but to be honest I think it actually makes it look a little less showy, which is a good thing.
Gonna take it for a blast around Gisburn Forest tomorrow!

Yeah I hated red wheels at first but liked it when I took it out for a demo, maybe because it was so garish! In the long run I think I'm better off with the black though, less 'blingy'!
The grease Evans use on the chain is horrible, its like sticky glue, loads of dust and dry grass stuck to the chain now on my lovely new clean bike!

The frames are really good, if not quite as light as more expensive models.
Never ditch the frame. Even if the gears and forks are shot; get some rigid carbon forks and convert it to single speed (very cheap and easy to do) and you have the perfect bike for winter/mud/snow use - I know two people who have used these frames as the basis of extremely good singlespeeds.

Ah! are you the chap who works for Evans? think I noticed your name in some other threads.What would you recommend as a good chain lube?
I'm enjoying it so far, took it around half of the Gisburn Forest red route, never done any sort of biking like that before, it was ace!
