Electric bicycles - who buys them?
Discussion
I purchased my Levo second hand for £2K in 2018. I haven’t checked the mileage in ages but it’s probably on about 6-7K now. I had the motor rebuilt a few months back at a cost of £250 and other than that it’s been the usual MTB servicing and consumables.
Mine is an early Levo with the 460Wh battery which hasn’t shown much in the way of degradation and will easily give me 3 laps of Degla which is ample for me.
Of course people have issues and failures but these tend to be amplified in the media and on social media. Be sensible when you clean it, have some mechanical sympathy and do some preventative maintenance every now and then.

Reads more like an advert for the repair centre to me?
A 71 year old had a problem with his motor (which was never broken) and solved with a software update.
71 year old goes online to read several scare stories and decides to write to Bosch about it.
Then a statement about how much it costs to repair a broken motor at the 3rd party repairer.
TLDR - Man doesn’t have a motor problem, can’t find anyone with a motor problem, advertises motor problem repair shop.
Sincerely doubt that. Pete doesn't need the advertising & the guy in the article is a knob who has banged on about class actions & crowd funding barristers. In short a retired old fart with an axe to grind & too much time on his hands who hasn't even suffered a motor failure. The classic barrack room lawyer.A 71 year old had a problem with his motor (which was never broken) and solved with a software update.

My Levo is 5 years old, many thousands of hard miles on the motor and I’ve just had it upgraded to the latest belt, as sealed as it can be and hopefully future-proofed. As it happens it was in quite good condition with a small amount of wear on the bearings (which were changed as a matter of course).
Including parts, labour to also include removal and back into the bike and the cost was £250 which personally I think is money well spent.

Well I've just ordered the SPECIALIZED TURBO VADO SL 5.0 from the bikefactory.co.uk in Chester!

Let us all know what it is like - I am still undecided.Pistonheads "making me buy things since 2008"
Had a test ride of a 4.0 and I like it a lot but it does feel just a little bit wooden. Needs different tyres and different pedals for sure but I also suspect the future shock on the 5.0 would help a bit with the shoddy road surfaces around here.

Not a criticism as we all have our preferences and some of mine are mad but I've never seen a component as out of place on a bike as those pedals! Surely on a MTB you wat to be able to disengage your feet from the pedal ASAP when it all goes wrong? The amount of times I've "saved" a crash just by putting my foot down or leaning a leg off the bike to regain balance
Afternoon all, after a painful dalliance with Halfords... (I know, bad advice from the company C2W scheme...)
I have now been refunded for the non functional, brand new bike...
I therefore have about 1500 to spend on a secondhand bike.
Only tarmac and light gravel (if that).
If anybody spots a bargain (the nearer to Wokingham/Reading the better).
I would be most grateful.
Thanks folks !

Well hopefully advice on a reasonable all rounder, hopefully a better bike than the 1300 turd I attempted to purchase from the non bike store.
TIA
If you are looking for a large size then this is a very good deal on a brand new bike with warranty for only 200 more.TIA

Is that a ladies bike? Am I missing something here?
The one from Specialized @1500 is a step through. Gender neutral these days as many older blokes have difficulty getting their leg over ![laugh](/inc/images/laugh.gif)
The one from Sigmasports @1799 is a regular straight bar - same bike though.

Yes I think I'd rather pay the extra personally than ride a ladies bike.
Do you always adhere so strictly to what historically marketing people told you? Some people are more comfortable with a step through, ask a disabled person or someone of a certain age.
It's a sensible and comfortable option for many.
I think it's only really the UK where people think of step throughs as ladies bikes, here in the land of the cycle commuter they're just a bike, and more common than crossbars. Personally I do prefer a crossbar though as it means you can lean the bike against lamp posts, I would assume a crossbar also means a bit lighter for the same stiffness.
That specialized is about halfway between a full step through and crossbar though isn't it?

The boundary has also been blurred by e-bikes I think. That specialized is about halfway between a full step through and crossbar though isn't it?
