It could have been worse... Metal fatigue not a collision.

Ouch.. Hope you managed to stay on and not hurt yourself.

Had exactly that happen to me twice as a kid.

Second time was a Raleigh Chopper. I fell of into a freshly creosoted fence and took the skin off my elbow and forearm. Took forever to heal and went manky. Jesus it hurt.

I was back at Moors Valley today, but on my own, so I carried on out the back and over to the Verwood trails. This is a bog I got stuck in on a trail called "Roots, I've seen a few" on Trailforks. The description was accurate. Then I got stuck in the bog.

I didn't have much time for photographs, as was meant to be back in time to go to the beach in the afternoon (I was late).

Spotted this berthed in the canal just at Spiers Wharf in Glasgow, looks pretty cool and some nice handy work has went into the metal work. Not sure how they’ve insulated this for the weather.
You see a few of those on London canals

They are converted ocean lifeboats. Confess they look extraordinarily ugly to me. But given they are designed to help ensure survival in horrendous conditions I imagine they are quite well insulated.

This pic sums up summer UK mountain biking perfectly!

Yes, this was at the top of a hill too.

Today's ride was a lot calmer - a family ride along a disused railway, with a stop for cream tea.

New Forest bike ride by Lewis Craik, on Flickr

The boys specifically went through every puddle they could find.

Almost a nice ride out today....

This was about an hour before my mate's brakes failed and he went through a dry stone wall and into a tree at 30mph+,somehow remained conscious and miraculously doesn't appear to have broken anything. An ambulance was required, however.

Mechanical. We were literally just having a conversation earlier in the ride about whether it's worth the extra. Not sure of they were worn or overheated but it was a long, steep hill and he's not a small lad. We then also made a joke once we'd finished the climb that he'd need an ambulance.

Relative to the circumstances of the crash and how it looked from my POV, he's okay. Leg was bleeding heavily, as was his arm. Head bleeding a bit but the helmet did it's job. I wouldn't be surprised if they found a fracture or two once he got to the hospital and his adrenaline levels had gone back down. He went absolutely fking flying, it was horrible to see. I was scared to climb the wall and see him if I'm honest, thought it was going to be a lot worse.

He was behind me and screamed. I thought he was just pissing about, he went past and then just didn't stop. So lucky there wasn't a car coming. He's been in touch since but hasn't said much.

It's not for this thread but the 999 call handler really was very frustrating. However, one of those 'first responder' folk turned up (hi-vis, Defender, daft accent, the works) and despite the piss taking they get, he was properly helpful.

Don't think I'm gonna ride down a hill for a while.

Very lucky to get away - mostly - with that. Glad he's OK OP.

Plus he gets a very strong justification for a whole new hydraulic groupset... And obviously the bike was at fault to some degree for not making the turn at high speed so new bike needed.

Nice ride today cut short by a mechanical, main bolt of my shifter rattled loose and is now presumably off seeing the world somewhere.

Limped it back with minimal shifting and found a bolt that fit well enough to bodge a fix - funny enough an old cleat bolt fit.

He's not said so, which seems mad. He had a very expensive POC helmet on, so read what you want into that.

I wish I had taken a picture of him to be honest, just for posterity. On the way to pick the bike up now, have a proper look at how bad it is. Also gonna return to the crash site and see if we can find any more of the wreckage.
