The "Show off your bike" thread! (Vol 2)
Discussion
Not that I've had this bike a long time, but just realised yesterday when going to post on another forum that I had no digital pictures of it! So I popped into the garage and snapped off a couple (in the wrong mode - they're a little fuzzy, but not enough I'm going out to take more
), prior to fitting the turbo trainer tyre that's now on it (much quieter and smoother than the Marathon on the trainer).
I bought it in the mid-90's, it has done many thousands of miles, and now it's been revived after a long break from regular use, hopefully many thousands more.
It's an SJS Thorn Brevet, 531c frame, specced for being as much of an all-rounder road bike as I could, hence mudguards, rack and bar bag, two-sided pedals, dynamo light, side stand, USE Alien suspension seat post. Strong enough for lightweight touring, comfy enough for long distance and commuting, easy enough to pop to the shops on wearing jeans and trainers. All of that was done, and although I never raced or TTed it, quick enough to keep up with my friend who did compete.
Nice Welsh countryside shots to follow after lockdown ends![wink](/inc/images/wink.gif)

Sorting out stuff in the shed today and came across this I built for my girlfriend around a decade ago, took some effort to source parts as it was before decent womens bikes were readily available, she's relatively small so had to use 650 sized wheels and extra long brakes.

Surprisingly light for what it is, carbon fork, seatpost and bars, ultegra chainset.
Spent more time building it than she did riding it, she used it twice and said she prefers her Dahon![frown](/inc/images/frown.gif)

Been many years since I ventured into the pedal powered section of PH and have taken a picture of my Dolan Hercules Di2. To be honest, I havent ridden much for a while and hope to get this back on track soon. Its a lovely bike to ride with a compact frame and long seatpost . All Zipp finishing kit and Di2 is old Ultegra , but is sublime to use.

My pair of jalopies, both of which are getting a lot more use at the moment...
2009 Specialized Allez - bought from a colleague for the Palace2Palace a few years ago and, bar some new tyres, enjoyed exactly as I got it ever since:

And the 'jump on for a quick hack around' bike - a Univega of some sort (I believe, it was powdercoated before I bought it and lost its decals) converted to single speed and picked up off eBay for 50 quid. This is getting a bit of tinkering now - I've got a set of period (ish) Marzocchi Z2s coming soon...

Newest purchase. An Alex Moulton (of Citroen suspension fame) AM7 from the mid eighties. This will make number 6 ![smile](/inc/images/smile.gif)

Love the flight as well, my favourite saddle.

I hated it as a child as I got a lot of flack even though for riding around A to B and not doing tricks it was better in every respect.

Nice! I've decided, finally, to submit to aero and disc. My Wilier may be a 6kg lightweight and great on hills 6% and steeper and I prefer the aesthetics of rim brakes but having recently test ridden an aero with discs I'm hooked, the speed difference is very noticeable.
I have a Trek Madone SLR on order, 45 days from order to delivery so won't get it until the Summer but very much looking forward to it.

The carbon aero bikes, disc wheels, electronic drive, are a bit pricey but heck, do they make a difference. I smashed every personal Srava segment by 20% first time ride out, climbing got easier too. I mainly use it for triathlons/Ironman events, plus its fairly comfortable compared to a pure triathlon bike and as I get older I appreciate that more. ;-)

Woo, shiny! I love the Madone SLR and almost went with that, but went for the Venge as I have some other Specialized bikes so made sense to stick with the brand.

The Venge is an excellent bike too. My decision to go with the Trek over other aero models is primarily because my two closest bike shops are a Trek Dealer and a KTM Dealer. I chose the KTM store for my MTB wants and needs and now the Trek shop for road. The carbon aero bikes, disc wheels, electronic drive, are a bit pricey but heck, do they make a difference. If I get up to a 20% improvement on my Strava segment bests I'll be very happy!
I figured most of my rides would benefit from an aero bike and the few rides into real lumpy stuff I can take my climbing bike.
