Long shot but if you put the bikes’ details on there and they are recovered you may get them back. I understand the police and the more reputable second hand traders do check it.

Good for any valuables not just bikes…

I seem to be seeing a lot of these type of posts coming from the "PO" area at the moment. I live in the "PO" postcode which is worrying.

Unfortunately, I think the chances of return are pretty slim but I hope it happens.....or the insurance pays out quickly so you can get yourself back on the road. Good luck!

I bought one of these for my garage floor, a thick chain & a D Lock.

Even though we live in a low crime area, I had to really as it’s required by Yellow Jersey bike insurance.

Easy enough to fit & to use once you get used to it.

Thanks all, have chucked some anchors in already for the remaining bikes, and will be investing in the future. Insurance going through but not that straight forward due to the fact none of them are standard. Closest is the Spark but this had power meter, droppper post and they require a proper quote from a bike shop.

Sorry to hear. Was this specific bike insurance, or just your house insurance?

Had a few bikes stolen over the years and also a couple of attempts.

One thing I found handy was as the OP mentioned having a folder on your phone and dump photos of you with the bike, serial number, all receipts etc and also pictures of how it was locked, shed lock specs, CCTV image of shed etc

I also have a very dodgy side gate that is a pain to open and close and I have decided not to actually fix it as opening it makes such a horrendous noise that it now forms part of my security layer laugh

I was going to ask that too as I have never bothered with it. I would be extremely upset as they're stunning bikes or if I lost my own!

I always just had my bikes covered as named items on my house insurance with accidental damage, until I entered a couple of longer sportives and discovered they would not be covered if I damaged them whilst riding.

I've been with LAKA ever since. Only ever once had to claim when I hit a patch of oil/diesel in the wet and came off and lightly damaged my shifter, tore a jersey and shorts and dented my helmet - they were superb, replaced (whit upgrade) within a week.

Friend has had two claims, one where he hit part of a forklift truck prong left in the road and got catapulted off, the second where is mistimed a bunny hop over a kerb and split his rear wheel. Again, both the LAKA paid out in days.

Everyone should register their bikes and then mark them as stolen if they are. I've actually seen this work in a Cash Converters in Leicester. Scrote was handcuffed in the shop in front of everyone!

Anybody ever caught anyone stealing their bike?

My last one I had stolen was witnessed and phoned in immediately by a member of the public but the Police were too busy to turn up.

In my younger days I did witness someone take my bike from outside a launderette and start cycling off. I sprinted after them and rugby tackled them to the grass to retrieve the bike - that was quite satisfying I must admit.

Thanks - will get after it with Laka

I have a wall anchor and a lock around my bikes, they are in a locked, alarmed garage and I cover them with an old curtain when not in use so nobody can easily see them if the garage doors are open. You get the "In the area" folk round offering services, saw one clocking my bikes and he started talking about his cycling, clear he didnt have a clue but fancied my bikes as a more effective way of making cash than some half arsed tree work or tarmaccing.

Oh, and put an Apple airtag somewhere on.in your bike, my main one is carbon with a small storage area, put one in a slit in a bit of car sponge and ram it as far in as you can get, can be retrieved with one of those grabber things to change the battery. So if it goes, its unlikely they would check that far in, just seems like some foam for damping/vibration purposes.

You get also get stickers showing the bike is registered with these databases- might deter the theft in the first place if it’s going to be tricky to sell on…

Bike register is great. The etch kid is carbon friendly too.

With Yellow Jersey insurance, you get a data dot marking kit & some holographic stickers.

It won’t make my bikes harder to steal but it will make them tougher to move on.

My main bike has an AirTag fitted to it too.
