Back to CT for a holiday 30 Dec - 18 Jan (end of contract so might stay longer for some training)....

What is the first thing you do when you go back?

Straigh to to Checkers and buy case of Pongracz, 2kg boerewors, 5L assorted Liquifuit, 12 Just Juice, Biltong, droewors, blitz and Rooikranz. Go home, light braai and get on with it...

The places for outside braai's are getting few and far between now, and with the additional summer 'part time' restrictions, just be careful.
I am sure you wouldn't like to know you set the mountain on fire!
Are you heading any where nice when you get to CPT ?
We always like a great day out at Berg River Resort, just off the R102, off the N1.
Great Berg River to play in, and all the rope swings, then the braai areas are just too good !

Enjoy.

We were going to go back for the Christmas break, but the Mrs, had blagged a month's holiday there out of me (to visit her family) while I was working away.
I would have booked us a pair of tickets, but with her just being back for 3 weeks, I wasn't going to shell out again!
I always amazes me just how much cash she can get through when she is there.
She moves in with her sister (in our house) so has no a accomodation cost, food is all found, so it beats me just where the cash go's.

I am convinced she takes her family out regular for day trips and evening meels etc.

Oh well, we can both go back some time end of February, or March'ish time anyway.

On a side note, me and her went to CPT for a '3 week break' stayed in our house ect, and came back to UK 3 months later, needless to say I got a new job on return !

We are fortunate to have apartment in Fresnaye (Sea Point) with a garden to braai in and off to house in Betty's Bay 6-12 January. Tough life in Africa! Golf, sailing, beach and food about sums it up!

Yea,

It's a tough call,
Cold wet England (dirty)
as against
a little bit of Sea Point and Betty's Bay.
.
.
Now let me think !
.
.
We have a house in Maitland and will we looking to buy another up on Tygerberg Hills, Platterkloof / Welgedaght area.
.
The beaches around the peninsular take some beating, utterly world class.

first thing i'd do (which i always do on landing) is hit the nearest Steers!!

man those guys still make good burgers. then i'd surf in the warm Indian Ocean. Go out for a proper Durban Curry and go fishing all night long with a couple of buddies and a bottle of klippies braaiing our way through the night.

I'd eat chilliwors, ribbetjies and ghostpops til i explode and say justnow a hundred times as its just the coolest word ever!

I'd moan about the government and the crime but still be so happy to be in such a wicked place.

My last day is always ceremonial. pat my dog goodbye and hope its not the last time i see the little mut. bye again to ma and pa (hope its not the last time i see them too! you never know in south africa)eat all i can eat ribs at spur for lunch and board the plane back to cold wet UK.

I had to meet a scottish girl hey?

Just back from CT after 4 weeks.

Observations:

1. Cape Town is beautiful....the good is very Good, the bad is Bad.
2. People there are bigots and fantasists who think that it is the best place in the world - wrong!
3. Prices have gone up dramatically in the past 12 months.
4. Services has gone down dramatically in the past 12 months.
5. If they elect Zuma - heaven help them.
6. The contrast between rich and poor is astonishing.
7. The 2010 football stadium is SO in the wrong place. It is an ugly monstrosity right in the middle of an upper middle class area and needed to be in an underdeveloped area.
8. I will go back at the end of 2009 again.

The South African shops should stock it - there are some good ones in Wimbledon and there are some stores online.

Infact here it is online for 4.99: http://www.southafricanshop.co.uk/quickSearch.do?s...

Amazing how you can find SA foodstuuf almost anywhere - there is a shop here in Athens too!

As for Spur I used to hate the place when I lived there (small town, lack of choices) but now I do miss it...along with Steers and Debonairs pizza.
The closest thing to Spur here is TGI's which all right but bloody overpriced. I hear SA has gotten pricey too but it seems eating out there is still cheaper than in EU...especially for fish.

There is a Spur in London and also Derby of all places , I love the outdoor lifestyle in SA and we did go to many places including Muisbosskerm restaurant near Lamberts Bay , I cant get over how expensive cars are in SA , A Land Rover Discovery 4 HSE was roughly 74,000 Rand when i looked last !

A beautiful Country and Cape Town is just stunning. i cannot wait to land next friday smile

There is a 'Chicken Cottage' restaurant / take away in Rusholme, Manchester.
They use it, and will order you your own jar if you ask, at very reasonable cost.
I have no idea where they get it from though.
