Never tried it with the police, but the Mozambican Embassy didn't turn their nose up at an "offer for inconvenience" so I could get a visa right there and then to go on urgent business whistle

With the right money, you can get away with murder. Lots of attorney, lawyers types friends from university, both prosecutors / public defenders and if you have enough money.... police dockets just disappear.

The SAPS are much the same, the bribes cost goes up depending if it is a constable / sergeant / inspector etc. but almost any problems can be made to go away. And if not wait for court and dockets can disappear like a money powered invisibility machine.

Driving wise, JHB metro cops are more than open to a little monetary persuasion. You mention it, they will take it, anything from speeding to drunk driving, can be made to go away at a price. They will even negotiate with you and escort you to an ATM ! (I speak from personal experience here)

Although nothing tops Nigeria when it comes to greasing the wheels of justice, we were parked on the side of the road, in the middle of nowhere near Abuja and got done for speeding ! Yup you read that right speeding when stationary. It was just the opening gambit for a little contribution to the policemans personal retirement fund type thing, and they only take dollars by the way, once again negotiation and haggling is part of the deal.
