My son asked me earlier this evening if I had heard of the song "Sugar Man". This brings back amazing memories. Not sure if it will just be the oldies who remember him. Has anyone seen the documentary?

"Sixto Díaz Rodríguez is an American folk musician. His career initially proved short-lived with two albums in the early 1970s and some brief touring in Australia. Unknown to him however, his work proved extremely successful and influential in South Africa, although he was mistakenly rumoured in that country to be dead by suicide. In the 1990s, determined South African fans managed to seek out and contact him, leading to an unexpected revival of his musical career. Their story is told in the 2012 documentary, Searching for Sugar Man, which has also helped give Rodríguez a measure of fame in his native country." Wikipedia

I went to see him at the Royal Festival Hall a couple of years ago when he was promoting the movie. A decent gig & an impressive amount of love in the room for the man.

Who doesnt remember it, you couldnt not hear it. - I kept mentioning him for years after I moved to the USA and then the UK but people look at me blank.

He is pretty big in Aus or Nz too, they played sugar man during some T20 match in the big bash competition recently.

I remember him. I was never really into his music but the documentary, if it's "Searching for Sugar Man", is just an amazing story. Nice to see him finally get to enjoy the huge following he had in SA.
