Hi guys, need a bit of advice re the FOS, myself and a friend have been to the revival a few times and my 10 yr. old son has decided he would like to come with me, my problem is that last year(2008) there was quite a bit of down time and I feel that two days would be too much for him to be kept interested so I thought about taking him to the Sat & Sun of the FOS instead, my questions are ,is there enough to keep a 10/11 year olds interest, how close can you get to the track when the hill climb is on and what are the other points of interest on the weekend. Thanks for your help.

Big Al.

I have been to the FOS on a couple of occasions, this year we went to the revival. My verdict would in future only attend the revival. Reason I like to see racecars racing, that only happens at the revival.

At the FOS it fast up the hill, and a pootle back down to the pits. You will have the opportunity to get closer to the beasties as anyone can walk around the pits and have a stare.

As I say after this year I’m hooked on the revival.

you can get a bit of quiet time at fos but this gives you plenty of time to move your spectating position, also the rally stage is awesome bit of quiet time again but hearing the rally car race towards you through the trees is really cool. main thing is he will get a chance to meet f1 drivers and even lewis if lucky enough.

I first attended the FoS in 1994 and have been to every day since. I was 10 years old that first year and already a veteran of 5 years watching racing at Oulton Park and probably 7 years of watching Grand Prix and reading Autosport. I was hugely excited, engaged in conversation with everyone, posed next to every Ferrari and generally had the best time ever. I was an annoying little git! If your son is enthusiastic and has a passion for learning about our sport's rich history, he will love it. There is loads to see and do and it's not all academic stuff - he will enjoy the rally stage and the hillclimb I would imagine. He can sit in BMWs and Mercs and the like; should have the time of his life. I've loved every minute of every FoS and as my knowledge of the sport has increased, so too has my enjoyment. Maybe try researching a few key cars so you can engage him in what he's seeing. I do the same in reverse for my dad now. His eyes tend to glaze over though...

I will add, however, that as an adult the Revival is the finest motor racing event I have ever attended. Puts Spa, Monaco, Le Mans, etc. to shame for sheer spectacle and racing quality.
