Goodwood is hosting a tarmac rally on the above date - which I believe will use the circuit as well as some roads immediately surrounding it.

I have entered in my BMW M3 Compact Rally Car - and the event seems geared towards spectators who can have free admission! It is fairly uncommon to be able to spectate at tarmac rallies in southern England as most are held on restricted MOD land. So make the most of it - should be some nice sideways action from us and various other RWD cars biggrin

For details please see www.southdownsstages.co.uk

Hope to see you there!

Ill be there, saw a link on a scooby forum and thought it would be different. Those of us unfortunate to be stuck in the army can usually get to watch the ones held on MoD land tank

BMW has developed its own snow safety system today - only half the cylinders are working frown

Hope to get it fixed in time - going to be tight as the car is having a custom exhaust designed so not due to get it back until Thursday night...

Never been to this but as it's only a short trip down the road, I'll show up.

On the other hand, my Father is marshalling and he too has never been.

What roads are shut and where is good to park? Will there be able trouble getting in from any directions?

I don't think any roads will be closed - the event happens within Goodwood circuit - although using other private roads on site.

Marshalls (like your Dad!) will direct you where to park - again within Goodwood circuit.

I've got a TVR too - it would be more competitive than the BMW at the moment (although it isn't that easy to control sideways, as I proved on a previous visit to Goodwood rolleyes) Any additional service crew appreciated!

Ohhh. When I pictured road rallying, I saw roads closed off etc...

So they use the circuit? Is it a good day out? Open pit etc...?

I guess we roll up and park within the circuits walls.

It isn't a road rally - they use almost standard cars. This is a stage rally - cars are often very modified and will use parts of the circuit (usually with additional chicanes etc...) as well as service roads and maybe even some partly loose surface too.

Should be very good to watch - much better than circuits, cars will no doubt be very sideways!!! If my misfire is sorted I intend to be as sideways as the restsmile

I guess any time is ok - you don't have to pay to watch and should be action all day except lunch break. Snow will make life interesting - I guess they'd keep event running...

The website says

"On arrival through the main gates, take the left turn to the car park.

Spectators must not drive through the vehicle tunnel. There is no space for parking on the 'inside' of the circuit.

There is a perimeter track which allows spectators to watch the event from the spectator banking anywhere around the circuit. This perimeter track is pedestrian only.

There is also a pedestrian tunnel under the start/finish straight which spectators can use to access the service area and the spectator viewing area on the roof of the pit buildings."
