Having already purchased general admission tickets, what options do I have for gaining access to the paddock area?

You have access to the perimeter of the fenced paddock with general admission. Access to within the paddock itself is with a paddock pass, which are only available to GRRC members. And you are supposed to wear period clothing..

The Paddock is split into two sections:
  • The 'posh' Paddock, with the D-Types, F1's and fancy stuff
  • The 'plebs' Paddock, for the rest (FJuniors, small saloons, etc.)
With a 'posh' pass (only available to GRRC members, or team members) you get access to the posh Paddock, plus use of the small tunnel by the public startline entrance.
On regular tickets, you have to access the Paddock via the road tunnel (opposite the main road entrance near the Chicane). This closes regularly for cars to come through. Once inside, you can browse the plebs Paddock (cars under canvas). You can only look in on the posh Paddock (with the permanent cover), which is picket-fenced and manned.
Only Team armbands will get you into the pits, pit roof, or Assembly Area. There is no public viewing area of the circuit from inside.

Period wear (or a decent stab at it) is a requirement in the restricted areas, but appreciated in the public areas of the Paddock. It seems to be less common on the outside of the circuit, which is a pity.

Despite the restrictions, it is well worth visiting the Paddock, for more 'features' and the planes. It gets busy, so try very early, or at the time of the last race (although some cars may be under covers). End of play on Sunday can be a very good time as all the cars are fired up to return to their transporters parked off-site (and you might blag a free glass of champagne at the prize giving on the start line) - better than sitting in a field trying to get home.

Rich has just about summed it up! Oh and if you can't be bothered with the whole period clothing thing, at least wear some chinos, brogues and a cloth cap or something. Last year I saw a father and son wandering round by the old aircraft in their Arsenal football shirts - didn't see if the Dad had "10 N'Wanko" written on his back... To be honest they looked like right knobs! rolleyes

Just buy some traditional white mechanic overalls and a cloth cap...then you can slip em on and off as required.

Rich has just about summed it up!
Should have mentioned, to clarify that I'm not a snob, that we'll be in the plebs Paddock. Probably shoved right to the back, as usual.

There will probably be a thread about dress soon (or search for previous). The three rules of thumb are:
  • Competitors, as well as Lord Charlie, appreciate specatators making an effort. They are more likely to make time to talk and pose for pictures.
  • Try to blend in rather than stand out.
  • An effort is better than nothing. A modern jacket & tie shows some willing. An Arsenal shirt just shows ignorance. And your Jordan/Hill puffa jacket may technically be 'historic', but it's not quite period.

Great news on this.. for those who are coming to the Goodwood Revival on Sunday.

The Vulcan bomber will be performing a display on Sunday at Revival towards the end of the lunchtime break. The display is planned for 13.50hrs, just before the start of the RAC TT Celebration race.

We are over the moon about its appearance and hope that it will create another not-to-be-missed 'moment' at the 2009 Revival. Please tell all you friends!

Seeing the correct period spans from the late 40's (1940?) to the mid 60's both the tweed look and the Vulcan will be appropriate. It's all make-believe don't take it too seriously wink

I mean... I'm not even a real Squadron Leader hehe

Indeed, it's on the Goodwood members forum posted by James so that's fantastic news and yet another example of the effeort the Goodwood team out into this event. smile

I know, but plus fours are better suited to Brooklands not Goodwood. I enjoy the fact that people enter into the spirit of the event but wonder why people dress as flappers or Bertie Wooster!

Hello,

Could someone please confirm (if it's known) that the St. Marys (saloons) and TT are both on the Sunday?

Many thanks,

Phil

Hi Phil,

The St Marys race is a double header with 1 round on saturday and 1 round on sunday. The TT is always on Sunday. Any doubts.. Have a look at the NEW and IMPROVED Goodwood website.

Cheers,
J

P.S. Vulcan Bomber has just been confirmed for Sunday as well.. Just before the TT.

I've said it on the Goodwood member's forum but I'll say it again here... James, you have done a great job in arranging this since it was muted on the forum only a couple of months ago! smile

Many thanks James,

I had had a look on the website but the only running order I could find was on the pdf. of the flyer. The St. Marys was not mentioned by name just as saloon cars so I just wanted to be sure. It's too good a race to risk missing!

Thanks again,
