I believe that BUY 1 is an original Coombs of Guildford Mk 2 race prepared Jaguar.
Jaguar saloons led the field in production and touring car races during much of the 60s. Not surprisingly the quickest and most successful private entries came from John Coombs’ Jaguar dealership in Guilford.
Options included 9:1 pistons, balanced crank, con rods, and clutch assembly. A lightened flywheel, gas-flowed head and trumpet carburetor intakes were also fitted. For an extra four pounds sterling the cylinder head would be machined to give 9.5:1 compression.
Some other options included a hand made exhaust with straight through pipes or performance ‘silencers’, Koni shocks, high ratio steering box, lowered ride height, long-range petrol tank .
John Coombs had significant race experience and his dealership simply got it right for a fortunate few racing enthusiasts. Very early on that included Graham Hill, Roy Salvadori and Mike Salmon. Sadly, Mike Hawthorn was also driving a Coombs Jag. when he was killed.
A fully modified Coombs MKII reached 100 mph in company with the E-type, a full nine seconds ahead of the stock version! It was the fastest and best handling saloon car available at the time.

It's the ex Salvadori car, always a favourite at the Revival Meeting with Grant Williams at the wheel. He recently came over to a Jaguar E Type day at Goodwood in May...

I know I'm being pedantic but BUY 1 is a Mk1 not a Mk2
Perhaps you are.....if the specification above is correct then its hardly a Jaguar at all it just looks like one in sillouette Adamp said:
Its a Mk1, I go with Grant every year to the revival meeting as a mechanic unfortunately was unable to attend the FOS this year.
Will try and answer any questions or find out the answers for you guys if you like.
Adamp, you really should sort the brakes out on the Jag as Grant doesnt seem to use them !!!!!!!!Will try and answer any questions or find out the answers for you guys if you like.
Not quite the same, but at the testing day last week (this is a bit rough because I was counting the gap between them in my head, but) the A35 was lapping slightly quicker tha Rowan Atkinson in the MKVII jag, which by guesswork and extrapolation might suggest that BUY 1 would be quicker, as it must handle better than a MKVII.
There were 2 A35s there, one was 1340cc so I imagine both were, and they were very quick!

hey guys havent been on here for a while, I think the car is not far over 300bhp will have to ask Grant or his dad Tony.
And as for the brake's I have been around goodwood with grant a few times and he doesnt us them much at just goes sideways instead.
Any of you guys going this weekend I think i may go and join the fun friday morning.

To be fair, the guest driver usually goes quicker than Rowan in Jag or Mustang, as it's looking a dry w/e I'd expect the power to tell.Hurricanehorold I shall be arriving tomorrow evenning and will be staying with Grant and the team for the weekend. Looks like the weather may hold off as well. Where are you staying hurricaneharrold?
Feel free to come and say hello I will be probably hovering around the MK1 with white overalls on that say buy 1 on the front.
