Im in the motor trade - have our own business . Been a life long devoted fan of all things automotive . Never been to Goodwood - so going to go in 2008 - when is best to go - how long for , overall opinions on the event(s) - top quality hotels nearby . Need all the feedback I can to plan a memorable trip down from Scotland in 2008 . All feedback is appreciated - Thanks Barry

Barry - Goodwood is a smashing place and you won't go far wrong with either the Festival of Speed in July 08 (http://www.goodwood.co.uk/fos/) or the later revival in September (http://www.goodwood.co.uk/revival/). Really depends on your motoring preferences but I generally look to spend 2 days at the FoS there is that much to do and see and the revival generally gets nothing but positive feedback from attendees. Roads and countryside around Goodwood also superb as well.

Hi Barry,

If you are thinking about coming down and want to sort accommodation, you need to move quickly as much of the best is already booked. Have a good look at the goodwood website for info on both events but as the other chap said, it really depends on your preferred type of event. If you love all things related to cars then i'm afraid you'll need to come to both FoS and Revival! There's a great list of local hotels & B&B's on our website. Tip...Amberly castle is amongst the best localy and will probably have space at the moment. Hope this helps.

Have always found 2 days is good for the FOS. I do first day on my own/with mates and then second day with my family for the picnic on the cricket pitch and general loafing (without feeling like I am missing stuff). As James has said (nice to see you posting on here James thumbup), if you want to book accommodation then get onto that part sharpish as I think most of the places in the immediate vicinity will block book from the year before - having said that I am only 1.5hrs away so tend to drive down each day so don't have first hand experience. I also recommend you get onto site as early as you can and before it gets too busy, it makes wandering around the paddocks etc a much nicer experience. Then there is the Revival which also has to be done, different from the FOS but equally excellent and great fun with everyone getting dressed up in period garb, not sure I could pick between the 2 if I could only do one of them.

If you into the Amberley Castle price bracket (eye watering..), check out Bailiffscourt Hotel. About 15 mins from Goodwood.

Or a little cheaper, Avisford Park Hotel, about 5 mins from Goodwood.

In Arundel, 10 minutes away, the Norfolk Hotel is a pleasant character hotel, right in the town centre, so easy access to some good restaurants.

Sorry to hijack the thread, its my first time in 2008 as well, I'm staying with the F in L and have tickets for Sunday (xmas present from wife!). Are there any tips for a good route into the place from Aldershot direction or best time to arrive, best place to view, what about parking etc.. Cheers

Judging by my first experience this year, don't forget waterproof clothing, welly boots and a brolley. And don't bother to clean your car before you go.

I went for the first time last year. Try and get there as early as possible, and check out the F1 area, and the superbikes, as this got pretty jam packed during the day. Pack water proof clothing and take a seat/stool if you don't have the tickets for the stands, as the general stands get pretty full. Food and drink is preety expensive, so if you are on a budget as i was last year try and take your own stuff. Last year it took me a while to get home due to the traffic, and mud in the car park, so allow for this if you need to get home quickly. It was a fantastic day out, and i have booked my ticket for this year allready.
