I haven't had my renewal letter yet.

Wasn't it £120 last year anyway?

Yup, and as it mentions in the letter, there are now 3,100 names on the waiting list to join.

To be quite honest, I may well let mine go this year. There honestly is no tangible benefit for me - the discount on entry and stands in no way equates to the membership fee, at Revival on Sunday this year the GRRC car park was full, but I ended up parked in the public car park right next to the entrance! I could never afford any of their jaunts to Targa Florio/ ice racing in Lapland etc which kind of smacks of a club within a club.

On the plus side the members marquee at Festival and Revival is good if it's raining but the very overpriced food and the excruciatingly long wait for a "quick" coffee served by brain dead morons just hacks me off.

On a similar note, the Breakfast Club breakfast is now a farce - £10 for a minimalistic amount of food and what looked about a 45 minute wait. We wandered to the far side of the paddock and found a most excellent WRVS type food van and got fabulous bacon rolls and a big tea for £3. Better value we thought.

Hmmm... still thinking, I like the kudos of the car sticker, but I also like £140..

I spent so long waiting that I'll be keeping mine up. It's not a bank-breaking amount.

I do agree that there needs to be more benefit for members at the main events. The car parking and the tents/lockers are very good but a GRRC stand/enclosure trackside would be even better, I don't want to pay an extra couple of hundred quid for that.

I am about to get my membership offer through per the GRRC office (after 2 yrs of being on waiting list), and one of the main benefits for me would be the Kennels. Correct me if I am wrong, but does the membership fee not entitle you to use the club house? The drive down from London is so good when there is not much traffic that it justifies using the Kennels regularly!

Again, the Kennels is smart, very smart, but check your credit card has sufficient funds on it - the Good Lord will spank it hard at the checkout!

I agree there need to be more real benefits for members, however the food at the Kennels isn't at all over priced.

If, however, you want a rare bottle of plonk from the wine list then just like anywhere else, you'll pay for it :-)

There’s also a debate about this running on the Goodwood members discussion forum. At £140 membership cost has increased well in excess of inflation over the past years (I think it was about £60 when I joined) but then they have a waiting list of about 3,000 people so it’s simple economics really. Does it represent good value, well let’s look at what you get, not in any particular order but the stuff that means something to me; Access to the Paddock at the Revival, ability to book seats in Chicane Grandstand (this and Woodcote are pretty well members only these days), obviously you get discount on ticket purchases but it’s not a big sum, use of the members marquee at the Revival with decent clean toilets and reasonably priced food, and I guess the same at the FOS. You also get membership of the Kennels, and can attend the Family Open Day in the summer, oh and I enjoy watching the Sprint meetings which are free to members. Over and above there are track days which are reasonably priced and the “noisy” ones are at 105 db which is handy! Then there’s the more expensive stuff which I must confess I’ve not tried but if others want to enjoy these trips then fair enough. Every year I debate with myself if it’s worth renewing and every year I do, so I guess it must be pitched about right. smile Rich…

I will pay you £160 for yours! Been on the list for a good 2 years or so, get an email 6 months ago from Goodwood to say I was 460 on the list............. then an email yesterday to say oops, its actually 1,460! So another year or two to go then!

Unless I'm on the "wrong" list of course...........

Anyone get their membership sooner?

Shame really, I remember going to the first revival around 10 years ago, didn't think of joining then, I think the waiting list then was around 4 mins!

Definitely worth a phone call. They must have so many people who put their name on the list the day after the revival and who have lost interest after 6 months that I'd be very surprised if a log wasn't kept of people who actually followed up their first enquiry. I joined last year and I don't think I waited much more than a year, but then I did make 2 or 3 pestering phone calls.

Craig - if you take out your GT for a blast down to Goodwood when the weather improves, mail me and I'll take my GT and join you for a scoop of something in the Kennels.

I'm a GRRC member too, but don't really use the membership other than for the Revival or FoS.

I keep meaning to try The Kennels. Like most of you, I only use my membership for the FoS and Revival.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the Kennels too; have been there on a number of occasions now and has never failed to impress.
