No, since frankly it is useless to try and get on Goodwood now with the D type in view of the noise restrictions. Before Brian used to hold the meter a fair distance away but now the new woman is so damned strict I pay, arrive and then just watch. I've tried everything but the lowest I've got the car down to is 101db and then it is completely strangled.

It's not really fair to blame the circuit when the JDC book a quiet day to try and get more cars on track... If they booked a 105db day you would be fine. Contrary to what some people think, we actually want cars on the track and love seeing them there...! The environmental scrutineers are just doing their jobs..J
I'm not blaming Goodwood, just the people who bought houses next to a race track so they could live life "in peace and quiet". I was a member of the GSA before the GRRC and love Goodwood but the attitude has I find tightened considerably. I used to be able to get on the track with the quiet words "lift off at Madgwick, Lavant and Woodcote please" which I respected. Now I can't have fun with my mates any more, that's all. All down to that four eyed git sitting in the council office, even on a bank holiday, with his eyes glued to the noise meter. I've discussed a different exhaust system too just for track days, but the short nose, with a side exhaust, is too short to get anywhere the 98db limit so that's the end of my fun there. Yes the JDC do have a day at Brands Hatch with 105db permitted but in November and I live at Le Mans so there is a fair chance of dodgy weather. I reckon I'll just come over a time or two for the CKL track days instead. We are investigating as to whether the new car can qualify but again, with side exhausts, it looks unlikely. Anyway, here in France I get enough track time (much cheaper too) with no noise limits at all. I'm thinking of running a 10 day 3 track trip around France on of these years. Any interest?
I invested in a non stock idea for a silencer recently that may be of use lowdrag. I've a 370BHP Subaru that was using a 3" system that was too loud, i wanted a silencer that was a lot quieter but didnt kill the power/flow, so had a one off backbox made that takes the 3" inlet and splits this internally into two 55mm parallel sections, it efectively doubles the length of the silencer in a small length box, yet keeps the flow capacity the same (the internal split is properly flowed). It knocked my system from 104db(A) down to 97db(A) @ 4500rpm measured at 45 degrees, 0.5 metre from the exhaust at exhaust height, with no loss in power potential, it should be good for over 500BHP. It's a fairly expensive way to make a silencer box, but it allows you to get the noise down in a confined area of silencer box, if you use smaller than 3" pipework it's easier to knock the noise down further.
If you want the details of the guy who made it, drop me a PM or email, he makes a lot of historic race systems, including E-Types.
