FOS - Taking The P*ss
Discussion
Public Car Park "A" this morning, 8am, Derv Punto HGT (yes its been re-mapped!) - sitting behind brain dead M3 driver who had obviously swapped out his throttle for an on/off switch and proceeded to cover the poor buggers who were pushing him in rooster tails of mud. I turned to copper on point duty and said "look, if you shut this entrance you can save a hell of a lot of aggro" only to get in return "no sir, don't you fret it will all be ok"........
Er, scuse me Dixon but it's 8am and already people are getting stuck so how about you engage brain, use some initiative and ....... oh sod it whats the point.
I'll tell you what the point is - 12 years I've been going to the FOS and in that time I've experienced an ever increasing strain on the ol' wallet for almost zero noticable gain. It's now got to almost £50 for the basic Sunday admission. It's OK charging this type of money >if< (and it's a bleeding big if) the event organisers can at least make contingency plans for bad weather!
It ruined my day. I spent the whole time thinking "christ I'd better not hang about otherwise I'll never get out so I ended up leaving at 3:30 and onlu just made it.
This morning I gave a bath towel whioh I'd taken with me to wipe dry off with to the porr guys who spent a pretty crappy morning helping to push people out of the mud. I may as well have given him a gold brick and his response was to allow me to park near an exit - thank mate whoever you are.
The organisers knew this was going to be a shambles LAST NIGHT and did bugger all about it. I know one of the exhibiters and they have been fed a right old pack of cobblers. He's probably still there trying to get his transit in to load up his stall.
Take note Lord March - stop taking the p*ss out of Joe Public. We give you a lot of hard earned cash. There is a limit and I've reached mine - I'm fed up of paying £50 to then cough up another £10 for a programme, £5.50 for a sausage roll and £3.50 for a coffee. I'm fed up having to cough up even more money for a covered grandstand and the last straw today was the complete lack of preperation for poor weather. Even Glastonbury is better prepared and thats saying something!!
I can deal with poor weather but it's obvious you can't.
FOS is pretty close to becoming a victim of it's own sucess.

Spot on.
I went on Friday and it was OK, I went on Saturday and almost got stuck in car park M. I had tickets for today (Sunday) but thought sod that as the queues were huge the rain was non stop so the car park (M again) must of been an total mud bath.
I've seen photos posted of the grass areas around the stands and they are total mud! Next year tickets will no doubt be higher so Lord March can pay for the damage done to his lawns!
well said basically, its a great event if the weather is fine, but as soon as the rain came that was it, I was camping in the goodwood grounds, 3 of us £140, plus the £92 each for the weekend tickets, but knew the price and booked it up, and would have no complaints until the rains came, nobodys fault, it happens and this is britain afterall!!
but at the campsite the toilets were never cleaned whilst we were there, we should know, our tents were right in front of them! the cleaner came in his van every night around 8pm, sat in his van then cleared off, if it wasn`t for the nice security bloke there wouldn`t have been any bog rolls either!! needless to say you have to go through mud and water to have a pee, and this was inside the loos!
as for the event itself, why do you have to pay a fortune to sit in the stands anyway, when you consider the price of your ticket in the first place! it was the only place to go where you wouldn`t get wet!
the food prices arne`t to bad, the quality of the food I bought was very good, and have paid a lot more at other venues, but I bet the traders have to pay a fortune to have the pitch in the first place, so we all know who that gets passed on too!
all in all a great event spoilt by bad weather, we packed up and went home early at 8am this morning, no point struggling in the mud and rain just to see the same as the day before, but there should be some improvements in the event of unexpected bad weather.

Seriously, I am actually pretty upset. I feel (like many others) that I've supported Lord March by religiously going back year after year and in return the format hasn't changed one iota for YEARS yet the organisers have singularly failed to learn the lessons of previous cock-ups. I am convinced that they take the view "hey, it's 12 months to the next one and people have short memories" Well this is a wake up call guys - we don't forget that easily!
Previous posts have mentioned the growth of corporate hospitality; there is a huge amount of this and it's growing all the time. The enthusiast is getting trampled in the rush! Mind you, the funniest thing I saw today was a woman who obviously had NO idea what to expect ending up with a tide line around the legs of her linin trouser suit because she enede up on the wrong side of the track. She should have been in the Moss Pavilion but ended up slumming it with us poor slobs over in the mud! God thats mean!
The exhibitor I know supplies scale model transfers and him and his wife are probably sleeping in the back of their van tonight. Yesterday the place turned into a mudpile and several of the exhibitors asked the organisers to please spread straw or chippings on the ground in the area area and we're basically ignored. As a result today YOU spent the day slopping through muck and he's spent the evening trying to get his van into the arena to get it loaded and then drive home.
Oh and if the Marshall's could lighten up a bit I would appreciate it. You do a fantastic job but you also get arguably the best seats in the house. Us poor suckers on civvy street who pay £50 to stand in the p*ssing rain by he side of the track may occasionally touch the rope barrier. Chill the hell out about it PLEASE!!!

I went with hospitality passes, first time. I am a member of GRRC but i dont feel that gets anything special. I went to the GRRC. 2 bottles of water and an apple....£6.50 There was a roast turkey on for £10.20. thats crazy money.
I retreated tot he hospitality tents, everything was free, as much food and drink as pos. treated like royalty etc, i didnt pay a penny, not even to get in. Now i did feel embarrased, average Joe had to pay £40 to get in, then all the food and drink which is very over priced. The people in the tents i was in can easily afford all the trimmings, arriving in helicopters and Rolls Royces but they get everything for free. Its a fanatstic event but starting to get too big now. perhaps a limited ticket affair. I do think that the GRRC should be a bit more special than just badge snobery.
I had a fantastic time. I have a friend who runs the Ferrari F1 demo/testing teams so if you saw a chap in the Ferrari mechanic van driving the hill after the F1 cars waving like a pro then that was me. My buddy just grabbed me and got my girlfriend to have her picture taken with Ralph Schumacher, Marc Gene and Jensen Button then a cream tea with them all in the drivers marquee.
We are still a bit def after the F1 cars lit up the rear wheels right infront of us with no warning.

Yup, the GRRC membership gets you 2/10ths of b*ggerall at the FOS, but at the Revival you get, well, 5/10ths of b*ggerall.
I was there Friday and the weather was sunny (save for a few spots of rain). As a consequence, having not applied any suncream, I have a face like a slapped ar$e.

This year was the first Festival I have missed, apart from the first year. I camped a few years back and again the showers and bogs were awful. Not cleaned at all. It was as if because they are out of sight of the masses there is no need to bother. I had a moan at the time but clearly no notice has been taken.
Compare this to Le Mans where there are many thousands more people and the bogs are manned 24 hours a day. Never thought I would be praising the Le Mans facilitiles!
I fear that the FoS may now be on the decline and unless numbers are severely limited or the event made longer, then many real enthusiasts will stay away. There are alternatives after all.

I ended up going unexpectedly on Friday and although I did enjoy it ( mainly down to the company I was in ), will not be going again, possibly ever, mainly due to the fact that I have now been four times over the years and the format has not changed and as mentioned above, it has become over exposed and far to busy.
Went all three days and to be honest I thought the show was pretty good with some real highlights - the Royales for example.
However, the traffic control was its usual appaling self (I think down the Police rather than Goodwood), the car park looked like the Somme and no attempt was made to do anything about it. After 15 (or whatever) years you'd have thought they'd have got it sorted.

You're all right, of course. Why can't Charles arrange for a 1000 acre umbrella so people stop moaning about the rain/sunburn?
Perhaps he should hold the FOS at the NEC next year?
Quick update for you: Rain + field = mud. Sunshine + field = sunburn.
You now have 12 months to find a pair of wellies to match your outfit and a sunscreen that won't give you orange streaks. HTH.

I think you are totally missing the point. The lack of cleaning of the campsite showers and loos has nothing to do with the weather. The car parks can be improved with a bit of common sense and the providing of more interlocking metal road. Goodwood is a huge estate. If it is tipping down with rain why use car parks like the north face or the Eiger? The admission charges are high and the paying public deserves a bit more effort in my opinion.Perhaps he should hold the FOS at the NEC next year?

I was also exhibiting at FoS and had an enjoyable time, despite the weather. What the hell, wear your wellies and your waterproofs, it is an outdoor event after all.
My issue was that 98% of the public had gone by 5.00 on Sunday and the steward on the gate had his orders that he would not let cars in to dismantle stands until 7.00 or 7.30 (depending on what gate you were at). I accept that for H&S reasons it is not safe to have lorries and transits etc mixing with pedestrians, but it was empty, not a soul around. I'd been on my stand since 7.00 that morning and was at this point cold and wet and beginning to lose my patience/humour.
Eventually it took an intelligent copper to tell the guy to get his act together and allow vehicles in because the local road system appeared to be jamming up. Why the hell the guy didn't get on his radio and request new directives given the conditions I don't know. It then took us 30 mins to get the marquee down and the display cars out. I was lucky because my car was next to one of the temporary roads so I could get out quickly, I feel sorry for those of you that got stuck.

Sounds like you had a good one - but not everyone has special passes and a friend in the Ferrari team. Sounds like it was a PITA for the majority, which is why I gave it a miss this year (after seeing the weather reports). Will give the Revival a shot, hopefully that's not become overly commercial (read extremely busy) and of course will get to see some real racing.....TRACKDEMON said:

I took a tow rope with me just incase anyone needed a hand but saw no one in trouble.
