Friday advice/questions
Discussion
The nice people at The Times sent me two tickets for Friday.
As I wasn't expecting this to happen I hadn't made any plans.
So mad rush to sort things out and I have a couple of questions:
It has been decided (SWMBO!) that we are driving down Friday am.
Plan is to arrive at about 9ish - what is the traffic situation likely to be like, should I be prepared for delays getting into the car parks?
If, as some are suggesting, the weather is wet whats the situation with the car parking - I'll be coming in a Lotus Excel - Goodwood site says grass parking - should I be worried about getting out if it's rained all day?
Have done a couple of online route planners and they all, bar one, are suggesting the M25 via Heathrow - whats the road work, traffic situation like at the moment?
Anything else you think I should know about?
Steve and Liz - White C reg Lotus Excel - traveling from Skegness - PH sticker in the windscreen.
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Last time I went to Goodwood was about 2 years ago, the car park on the Friday morning wasn't to bad, however, as the car parks open at 6:30 and gates at 7:00 you may find it starting to build by 9am.
Also the A27 is a bit of a nightmare road that time in the morning so you may get held up getting there. Luckily, I live only 45 minutes from Goodwood but still looking to get there for about 7am on Friday and 6:30 on Saturday to avoid the traffic.
Car parks, yes they are all on grass however quite flat (main one anyway, back car park is on a slope however, I'm sure you will end up in the main car park if you follow the signs), they do have a few different entrances and exits so not all cars going in/out of only one. The main car park is just of the A27, just follow the signs (and traffic!) and you should have no problems.
One thing I will say about Goodwood is that they are always well organised, been to the Breakfast club many times and always no problems. I'm sure if it rains they will have planned for it.
M25 Heathrow is going to be your best route, came through there the other day and much better now as all the road improvements for T5 have been completed. M25 is a nightmare at rush hour (or should I say Hours!) My advise to you is to be round the '25 by 6:30/7am at the latest.
What ever the weather, FOS will be great!

The Car Parks do open early and the fill up quickly from the front (where the GRRC parking is) - this is often furthest from the exit and if the same happens as two years ago, a downpour at 4pm had everyone rushing to go and long queues to get out. To avoid this you can park next to where you get into the field so that you dont get stuck - it means a slightly longer walk to get in but a lot less hassel at the end. However if its a nice day then its great to sit with a pint on the cricket field listening to the bands until the crowds have gone - whatever you decide to do you will have a fantastic day - the FoS is in my opinion the top Motorsport event

Cricket field is where they are displaying the land speed record cars, so will have plenty to see whilst having a beer and listening to the band!Totally agree, FOS is one of the best, how Lord March gets all these cars together in one place still amazes me
Thanks to everyone for their advice.
Getting round the M25 before 7am means a very early start - or I'll need to making 'progress' for the first part of the journey
Will use the Petworth route, thanks for that tip.
Frazer - I had a look at that route when you mentioned it in another thread. It looks a bit of a long way round to me but if I'm running late I can see it being a lot better than the M25.
Which ever road I use get there I know that I'm going to have a great time.
Steve.
