I was planning to go to FoS on the Friday as usual this year. I checked the other day and saw Friday was booked out except for some eye-wateringly priced packages, so realised for the first time since lockdown I won’t be going. Last year on the Friday it was too packed, and, I feel strangely relieved I won’t be going to Lord March’s bank account boosting charity event this year, and am happy to leave them to it.
Maybe I’ll go next year, but I really feel the place has lost its soul and is just a shop window now for EVs and noisey events you can hardly see unless have a stadium or enclosure ticket

Strange you feel the need to make these thoughts public!!!
You clearly didn't enjoy your visit last year. You clearly resent the Duke of Richmond profiting from an event many people enjoy. Why the hell were you even looking to attend this year?!?!

Strange you feel the need to comment on my apparent need to make these thoughts public. Bit of inside info fella, this is a discussion forum where people post thoughts publicly to air their feelings, generate a debate/discussion, and generally share a virtual room with other car-oriented folks - try it sometime!
To your other point about why I even wanted to go this year, call it habit and the fact I remember FoS as being a great calendar highlight of the year. Over the years it seems to have become more and more commercial and designed to lift more money from your wallet each time you go. The fact I couldn’t go this year was something of a relief. That was the point of my post, like it or not (which you clearly don’t).
No problem whatsoever with you being relieved that you cannot attend this year.
I make all manner of day-to-day decisions which provoke a range of emotions. Rarely, if ever, do I feel the world will be a better place if I share these with the world on a public forum.
It seems to (cynical) me that you have just created an excuse to slag off the FoS / Duke of Richmond?!

Sorry chaps - I’ve clearly hit a seam of Lord March brown nosers in this thread. Sorry to cause offence to your rectural oral cleansing and admiration interests in this clearly very sensitive area and subject. If any PHers less inclined to take offence at my post wish to join in the banter with my new chum here please feel free.
Not to stir the pot, however, it's the Duke of Richmond, he is no longer Lord March.
Goodwood is many things to many people, nothing wrong with commenting positively or negatively on the events, it's all personal choice to go (or not), there are many (non Goodwood) events I've regularly been to in the past, that I now don't attend, I had a gap of nearly 10 years without going to the FoS, this year I'm going every day with different people, with Revival I've cut it to two days this year, after previously doing all 3 for many years, just circumstances and choice

I shall be doing the Friday. Only because as a GRRC member I feel I should as I’m trying to make the most of my membership by getting a fractionally cheaper ticket than those who aren’t.
Would have done the Thursday freebie obviously but as we all know that’s not a thing anymore.
Not interested in that modern stuff going up the hill but still enjoy watching the Revival-esque cars. Also the Porsche cafe breakfast is a good place for a chinwag and catch up with friends in the morning.
But yes- sadly particularly when it comes to FOS it is seems to be more of a corporate event each year with large parts of the hill given over to enamel badge wearers or grandstand pass holders.

For me, one of the great attractions of the FoS is being able to talk to car owners and drivers in the paddocks - if you are there early in the day when the cars are being prep'ed there aren't so many people about and most folk are more than happy to chat.
This hasn't changed markedly over the years IMHO.

You sound charming. Please do everyone a favour and stay away. You'll be happier and so will everyone else.I've not missed one since 2003. Nothing else like it, though i think i enjoyed it most about ten years ago.
hopefully the contract with weather gods is sewn up properly this year!
I think there have been about three bad weather days in the time I've been going. Still have the BAR umbrella bought in 2006 i think when we got stuck in a beer tent in an absolutely torrential storm. Last year i got a BMW one!

Quick update on the roads down this neck of the woods.
If you are a early arrival or a late leaver the Hindhead tunnel will be closed between 21-00 to 06-00 every night this weekend.
There has been a speed limit of 40mph in the tunnel going North for the last few weeks. No one knows why...
Camera vans have been on the A3 just after the tunnel on both sides during weekends a lot this summer, so be aware.
If you haven't been down for a few years, there are now average speed cameras on the A3 going North through Guildford.
If I can think of anything else I will post an update.
