Weather is always an uncertainty, but that's a pretty late call from the organisers. I hope the disappointment doesn't become frustration for those that don't check their emails!

My brothers staying near Guildford with my nephews tonight as they were due to go tomorrow, if anyones got suggestions of anything else car wise they can do Surrey/London way instead to save the boys disappointment when they wake please post suggestions!

I’ve already put across Merc World, just Googling alternatives.

It's almost inevitable some are going to turn up tomorrow if they are not on their social media tonight .

Really! Cars can’t cope with 24mph wind and 40mph gust? That’s if it happens cos’ the forecast this July hasn’t been predicted accurately by the Met Office. Is this more climate change BS?

I imagine it's the temporary structures onsite rather than the cars that are the issue.

Brooklands also available nearby of course.

It's not the cars you donut, it's the marquees and brought in props potentially going airborne. laugh

Well that was well risk assessed for typical July UK weather!

Edited to add donut that a quick google suggests professional marquees are good for 50mph to 80mph winds. What other props are going flying? wink

I'd suggest you get on the telephone with your new found information to Lord March without delay. It's quite possible the decision could be reversed now you have done some Googling.

Its probably about an hour away, but Beaulieu Motor Museum? Depends on their age, but has a lot of the Top Gear project cars to look at, nothing moving though from what I recall....

Cheers, I reckon beaulieu will be very busy tomorrow!
My brothers managed to book a passenger experience at Mercedes for tomorrow so with a tour and visit to brooklands they should still get a car fix. beer

50mph+ winds are not remotely typical for July in Sussex.

Gutted but when we got the first email I thought it was going to be cancelled. Thankfully bought some Sunday tickets this morning off another PH member but friends arrived tonight from Ireland specifically for tomorrow. I wonder what the cancellation policy will cover and if there will be excess costs over tickets (camping etc).

From bbc weather:

Yellow warning of wind
Starts: 09:00 BST on Sat 15 JulyEnds: 23:59 BST on Sat 15 July
An unseasonably windy day is likely on Saturday.

- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
- Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
- It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will be affected by spray and/or large waves
- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely
- Some damage to trees or temporary structures such as marquees, tents & inflatables, could occur
Issued at: 09:35 BST on Thu 13 July
Last updated: 14 hours ago

The foot bridges allowing customers to access different parts of the event are often quite crowded, then there’s the stands that have cars mounted on top of them such as the bmw stand, the bmx event wouldn’t work too well either in heavy winds, and the uneven ground on parts of the event in general with exposed trees and branches. Fair call imo.

Go to the Historic Superprix at Brands and see some proper racing.

As far as I can tell from those on site last night, a lot of stuff was being loaded back into their transports to ride out any issues with the weather. Given conditions aren't expected to begin to settle until after 10pm tonight, they have one hell of a job to re-prepare the site for 7am Sunday.

Omg, everyone should stay indoors tomorrow!
And with uneven ground - and tree branches!!! - that place sounds like a death-trap.

I’ve been at Mallory in lower winds than that, it was chaos, marquees etc flying around, plenty of cars damaged and a few people injured. It’s not a ‘FFS’ situation.

Lower winds than what?
24mph is what's mentioned in the thread. So you're saying less than that, and it was chaos.
Really?
