I am going to the FoS with my Father for the first time this year. I'm normally still recovering from Le Mans, but I've been promising my Father for years we would go and this year is it. I have booked us tickets for the Friday and would appreciate any hints and tips from any regulars. I haven't booked grandstand tickets as I figured we would want to wander round a bit. Hopefully the weather will be OK and I won't regret that decision !

Get in early, its a big place and one day isnt really enough to see everything.

Be prepared to walk miles, and take your own food and drink.

I have only been on Thursdays and traffic is okish. I would say get there early and not when everyone else goes up. what ever you are driving you can always find people from your area to cruise down with which can be great fun.

Treat it as a 12hr visit. Good move on avoiding the grandstand as there is really too much to do in a day. Do the paddocks first thing whilst they’re more quiet and then the trade stands after. Trade participation felt very reduced last year but hopefully will be back to its old self this year.

I’d get grandstand tickets. I never do but after a few hours walking you really want a seat to sit down for a while. The view is obviously much better too! I always regret it not having bought tickets.

Get in early......
Absolutely this. You want to aim to get there before gates open in the morning because by the time you've parked and walked to the entrance they'll be starting to let people in. If there's something specific you want to see then get there straight away, grabbing a bacon sandwich and a coffee before the queues. After that blast round and see as much as you can before it all gets crazily crowded. Then chill for the rest of the day...

If you drive a convertible I recommend, depending on the weather,
Raining? - Roof up!
Hot and sunny? - Roof up! The car park can be very, very dusty with all the cars driving in.

Google says 2.5 hrs to get there, so looking like a very early start. The soft top will be staying at home. It's an old Landie, which would mean an even earlier start laugh

Get / borrow something more comfortable than an old Landy to go in, it will be fine on the way there, you’ll regret it on the way back, you cover so much ground during one day at the FOS all you will want is a comfy seat for a 2.5 hour journey back

Many times visitor here, from the very first to I believe 2018. Some good advice already posted. My two cents:

Best approach is from the north (Petworth) and in to the car park which is half way up the hillclimb. Can get muddy but with your choice of wheels that won't be a problem!

Remember to visit the rally stage at the top if you're in to that sort of thing. Free tractor/trailer rides from the back of the main paddock food area.

The lower paddock (past the Style et Lux area) is always worth a look.

Avoid the manufacturers' stands - who cares with so much fantastic history to look at?

And, as mentioned, get there for early doors and stay until the end. The event is massive and there's so much to see. Enjoy!

I will be in the V40. If I was taking the Landie I'd probably want to leave a couple of days earlier laugh

No idea of your fathers age or ability, my father was about 70 when I took him and reasonably fit. He was exhausted at close of play. There’s a lot of walking, map it out prior to going.

I took my 14 year old son last year for the first time, 3 1/2 hour drive for us, was in the carpark for 7:30. Bacon butty and coffee and walk around the super cars first.
Once runs started gradually made our way up the hill, love watching from different areas and angles.
Popped into the paddock, Best part I reckon, chated to John McGuinness, son nearly spilt his drink all over Travis Pastrana
Used second bridge to get back to track viewing, good move Goodwood.
Continued up the hill slowly until 5he rally stage, had a look at that, then reverse down again, caught top 10 shoot out at first corner and back to the carpark.
Both very tired but fabulous day!!!
