Festival of Speed 2022
Discussion
It's that time of year where we traditionally speculate on the next FoS date (the F1 calendar has been leaked) to get in whilst hotel prices are still acceptable, I've not been wrong in 5 years but there is always a first! As always even if they do publish a date soon it'll be TBC, dependent on any further potential F1 calendar movement (and COVID), they normally ratify the F1 calendar in December.
June 11/12: Le Mans
June 19: Canada F1
July 3: Silverstone F1
July 10: Austria F1
July 24: France F1
July 26/30: Qatar Goodwood Festival
June 23-26 looks like a pretty safe bet and takes them back to usual end of June slot. I've booked my (fully refundable!) hotel for the bargain price of £40
All bets are off for 79MM, no idea on that one!

I guess the 79MM date will be dependant on if the way it’s had to be done this year works in respect of if there have been significant cost savings just changing the track infrastructure rather than putting it up from scratch plus if they think ticket sales can be maintained at an acceptable level for an event so close to the Revival, if it doesn’t all add up no doubt it will move back closer to its traditional date

Talk today is it will be back to March / April. Myself and my boy go to goodwood every year, it's the thing we do together.
Booked accomodation for next year, only to get an email back saying 'sorry, goodwood fos is on that weekend, the price is now double what you booked at, if you can't pay it, then we'll cancel it for you'
I can't afford the price they want, and tbh, trying to find accomodation for a reasonable price is proving very difficult. After all, the 4 day tickets for the FOS themselves end up around £1500.
This may be the first year in many that we can't go!!

^ this! For FoS I booked a Premier Inn in Portsmouth for £40 at the weekend, booked the same one for 79MM at the same price too. 30 minute drive but I don't mind that rather than spending 100s! I'd prefer to go slightly north rather than join the A27 with everyone else, but I'll be leaving FoS and 79MM nice and late so it shouldn't matter. Just checked and the Premier Inns around Portsmouth are still cheap.
A map search on AirBnB is another good option, I stayed in a lovely garden annexe for FoS this year up towards Godalming, £60 with my own kitchen fully stocked for breakfast. Lovely quiet drive with barely any event traffic.

Just stay slightly further out. I’m 30min away in Portsmouth you’ll find cheaper accommodation around there.
Hopefully, after loads of searching, and now fingers crossed that they'll honour the original price, I've found somewhere, only slightly further away, but nearly £1000 cheaper.Waiting now for the full confirmation from the owner
£1000 cheaper for presumably 3 or 4 nights? Crumbs, how many people are you booking for?!
Have a look at Air BnB as already mentioned if you’re not familiar with it; usually plenty of decent options there for 2-4 people for £120-150 per night for the Goodwood weekends. Most are nicely presented, and while they do all get booked up of course there were plenty for the FoS weekend when I was looking the other night. I’ve booked a house for me and my Dad for about £120 per night, and it’s about 10-15 mins from Goodwood.

Only the two of us, I usually do the same, get a cottage to stay. This one i've hopefully booked is £450 for 3 nights, so happy with that. The original one i booked was £650 until the owner realised it was FOS weekend and they put the price up to over £1300. I just hope the new booking doesn't do the same.Have a look at Air BnB as already mentioned if you’re not familiar with it; usually plenty of decent options there for 2-4 people for £120-150 per night for the Goodwood weekends. I am beside myself to say that I have been gifted 3 tickets for 2022 FOS. That'll be my son and I plus my best mate. I have always wanted to go to Goodwood and guessing at what they cost, I doubt I'll go again.
However, for me, as a once in a lifetime visit, I would have chosen the Revival. Don't get me wrong, FOS will be brilliant. It's just that the other meeting is bucket list material for me and I'd like to turn up in my MKII Zodiac if possible.
What's the best way to approach this?

Get in car, drive to Goodwood, park in field, walk in to event. However, for me, as a once in a lifetime visit, I would have chosen the Revival. Don't get me wrong, FOS will be brilliant. However as with the revival and FOS you often see classics at the side of the road that haven’t made the event. If it’s a once only event I’d be taking your daily. There’s no special parking at FOS except for an additional fee for supercar/sports cars.

Arrive early. I happily get up at 4am to be on-site when the gates open at 7.30am every year. No traffic, no queues, first thing AM is a lovely quiet time to browse the paddocks (it really is quiet, unlike 11am onwards when it's absolutely manic). Then you can head over to the slightly quieter areas over the other side (manufacturer stands, Future Lab etc). However, for me, as a once in a lifetime visit, I would have chosen the Revival. That also opens up the option of leaving a bit earlier than everyone else (or really make a day of it and stay right till beyond the end), either way you'll have a stress free exit too.
If you haven't got grandstand passes and want good views, head up the hill. It'll get quieter the further you go. If you're there for a single day and can live without rally cars, skip the rally stage. Although it's only 'just up the hill' it'll eat into way more time than you'd expect, and often you'll have no idea why there are lengthy delays on course etc. It's great if you're there for two days or are basing yourself much higher up on the main hill climb though (as I do).
