I've driven down to Goodwood events (from Hertfordshire) every year since 1994, but it's looking likely that my other half will need the car on the Saturday (taking over my role of parental taxi service to clubs, music lessons and parties...).

I was about to hire a car, but looked into the train instead. Putting the hideous cost to one side, it looks relatively simple in theory (direct train to East Croydon, change for a train to Chichester).

Does anyone (local or otherwise) know of any reason why I should avoid this option at all costs?!!

Engineering works?

Do shuttles run from Chichester to the event during Members' Meeting?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated!

I’ve got the train to revival before but not MM. My plan this year is the train, there are normally stagecoach busses for all Goodwood events and the FAQ mentions buses and the new event map has a bus drop off area but nothing is showing on the stagecoach site (revival, FOS and horse racing had timetables up).

I’ve contacted stagecoach but awaiting a reply.

Good idea - even a taxi from the station will only be £15-£20. Uber operate there too but you may need to avoid peak time costs.

My only concern is leaving after the fireworks.

No problem getting from the station to the circuit by taxi, but definitely pre-book your ride back again.

Thanks for the advice - much appreciated. I contacted the ticket office today, doesn't look like the shuttle buses are running. The person I spoke to was super helpful actually, gave me names of taxi services etc. Still undecided, might still hire a car and take the 'adventure' out of the equation...

Goodwood needs to update their website in that case:
" A Members’ Meeting bus runs from Chichester Station from 0700hrs each day, with tickets for the service available on the day."
goodwood.com/motorsport/members-meeting/getting-here

I have never used the train but I have a couple of times parked in the multistory car park in the Avenue de Chartres (less than £5 for a day) and taken the shuttle bus into the event. When the weather has been very wet it's a better option than getting stuck in Goodwood's muddy field.

A pity it's not running this year, thanks for finding out.

Interesting - that looks pretty official to me, I might give the ticket office another call later!

The map that was uploaded this week also has it marked on as a bus terminus:
