FOS covid pilot event - was anyone actually checked?
Discussion
We went on Thursday, first time in 18 month's I've been to anything of that scale naturally, but I was surprised to see how few fks were given about covid status.
I'm always pretty dubious when it relies on trust (i.e. unless double jabbed you have to test at home), but it that didn't appear to matter as nobody seemed to scan / check the info.
I'd printed mine off but it wasn't asked for or looked at, just walked straight in having had my entrance ticket scanned.
Was it the same for everyone?

No checks at all for us today.
Walked in with the COVID passport on my phone ready, one of the stewards simply glanced to confirm I had something on my screen, didn't read it and I didn't need to check in at all.
Signage said I needed to show photo ID but I didn't have to show anybody anything.
Quite surprised really, was expecting a big queue will my phone QR code was scanned, but nope.

If you have the NHS QR code you won't need photo ID. This is because the account on the NHS app is set up using photo ID. If you just have the email or SMS confirmation of a negative test then photo ID may well be required for inspection. was checked for vaccination status on way into Porsche Club car parking. Other than that, you wouldn’t know there was a pandemic going on. Felt all very normal but will be interesting to see the stats from this event in a week or two.
It will be near impossible to link cases back to Goodwood specifically. I didn't even see the QR code (i.e. the one that you scan with the NHS COVID app to 'check in') until I was leaving, it wasn't at all obvious and there was no effort from anyone to ask people to scan it.It's all kinda redundant anyway, everything will be a free-for-all in 10 days time.

This is done after the event and what is interesting to see is that in the UK they are not releasing the data on Wembley as this is politically hot right now.
Hopefully Goodwood won't be one of these events, the right crowd and no overcrowding sort of thing. But it is interesting to see how this is treated given the scientific perspective on attending this sort of thing.

Yes - you’re probably right as in 10 days everything will be redundant, so why bother. Let’s see if this bites us all in the arse. It's all kinda redundant anyway, everything will be a free-for-all in 10 days time.

In 12 hours on site there wasn't a single moment that to me felt less safe than going to a restaurant, going on a train, going to the supermarket etc. 98% of the Festival is outside so I really don't see how it could be a 'super-spreader' event or anything like that.It was nuts in the paddocks today ( specifically / particularly the F1 paddock ) if they want a test, that’s it. TBF I didn’t really care, nor did anyone else. That was the very epitome of testing the situation to it’s absolutely limit. (Quite rightly) no masks, no distancing ( whatsoever). If it’s going to go wrong, this will tell us all we need to know.

The only places that felt more risky were the choke points around the bridges, but then you do cross them in 5 minutes or so. As you say everywhere else felt fine to us.skeeterm5 said:

Agreed, the bridges did get tight and congested at times. The event does rely on a huge amount of trust from attendees and staff to take the test and report a correct result. It’s very easy to cheat if you were so inclined. Given the idiocy of some I’ve seen over the last 18 months I’m hoping most in attendance were towards the sensible end of the population. We were checked but it was a glance at the NHS text no ID check. My steward did read the text though as she asked if I was attending other days as I’d need a more upto date test if I was.

Seriously? Feck me, the paddocks were about as risky as it’s possible to get today. It is an experiment, the crowding in the paddocks will prove a point, one way or the other.Gassing Station | Goodwood Events | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
