Festival of Speed and Goodwood Revival 2020

Festival of Speed & Goodwood Revival updateDear Julian,I hope all is well given the extraordinary situation we have all been experiencing over the past few months.Summer is normally an exciting time at Goodwood, as we welcome hundreds of thousands of guests to our headline events. Sadly that’s not to be this year, as we have had to take the decision not to hold the Festival of Speed and Revival in 2020. While we are giving everyone the option to roll their tickets over to 2021, or request a refund, I hope that as a valued member of the GRRC Fellowship you will consider becoming involved in a new initiative, by exchanging some of your existing 2020 ticket value for membership of the newly reinvigorated Goodwood Supporters’ Association (GSA).The original GSA was founded 25 years ago, when a group of enthusiasts joined me to help overcome a seemingly insurmountable challenge – bringing racing back to Goodwood Motor Circuit. The challenge we face today is very different, but perhaps even more serious, as it threatens the future of the entire estate. Bringing people together to enjoy the things they love is fundamental to everything we do at Goodwood, so social distancing is having a catastrophic impact on all areas of our business. It is a worrying time, in the face of which we are doing what we can to salvage a future for our events.We have, of course, placed the safety of our customers and staff above all else, but now we begin to face the implications of the ‘new normal’ as the government attempts to balance the demands of health and the economy. We are hoping that we may be able to keep the flame alive with a ‘behind closed doors’ motorsport occasion in the autumn, for everyone to enjoy at home, but in terms of business the most this will do is limit damage. We count on our headline events to generate all of our operating profit, and their absence has left us with millions in overheads to pay and no income since March, placing not only future events but even the long-term survival of the estate under considerable strain. It is therefore my hope that, with the renewal of the GSA, you may consider standing beside us as we weather this storm.There are three levels within the GSA, which you can opt into according to the amount you wish to donate. Given the value you have so far committed to 2020 tickets, you will be able to exchange some of this for GSA Level 2. At this level you will receive a range of special benefits as a gesture of our gratitude for your support in preserving Goodwood’s future. These include a bespoke GSA pin badge to identify you as a lifetime Goodwood supporter, a section of the woodland northwest of the circuit that you will adopt as a symbol of your lasting connection to the estate, and your name engraved on a commemorative plaque at either the Motor Circuit or within the Festival of Speed site. Full details of all the levels are listed here – remembering that you can always contribute extra to upgrade if you wish.I appreciate this is an exceptional request and ultimately you must do what is best for you and your family. If you do feel able to support us by joining the new GSA, please visit the website and follow the simple instructions. Or if you wish to roll your tickets over into 2021, you don’t need to do anything as this will happen automatically at the end of August if we don’t hear from you otherwise. Alternatively, if you would like to request a refund, please click here for more information.I wish you all the best, and hope it won’t be too long before I can welcome you back to Goodwood. Kindest regards,

Brilliant, we need some humour when all this summer's fun has disappeared!

I'm disappointed that the FOS isn't going ahead. It's the 4 days that me and the lad (22 yrs old) get to go away, just the two of us and talk cars etc.

I'm also a bit relieved, as I was concerned that if they put on the FOS and revival, that the events would be rather watered down from what they normally are.

I'm going to hold on to my tickets in the hope that it all doesn't go belly up and the tickets become worthless. I want to support them and go next year, as I have done for many years.

Dave, I felt that a difficult decision was made for us...two members of my family are "at risk" and one of them is shielded at present. I rolled my tickets over.

As it happens the owner of our accommodation cancelled our reservation a couple of weeks ago. He said that he didn't want to do so but that it was done on recommendation of the council.

Had two Sunday Revival grandstand tickets and not able to roll over due to a big family birthday/get-together at that time next year.

Applied for a refund a few days ago via email but not had any receipt/confirmation or heard anything from them - take it that's normal and they'll get around to it when they can?

Don't need the funds asap, just want to make sure they got the email so the tickets don't auto roll-over.

Not impressed with Goodwood at the moment, sent a mail last week regarding the Goodwood supporters association and had a reply the next day on how you can help them.

Sent a mail near a week ago regarding my tickets (£1200) for FOS and looking for a refund as won’t make next years event, not heard anything.
Was going to continue this years GRRC membership but now seriously considering at looking for a refund and not joining again.

Understand it is difficult times but it’s the lack of communication and blatant ignoring of any mails that is very annoying.

I concur, not impressed either. I requested a refund before they announced cancellation but they refused and said wait until a decision is made and they'll refund if I can't make the new dates, I therefore immediately requested a refund following the actual cancellation announcement and have since chased again, but not received acknowledgment of any of these emails. Beginning to wonder if we'll ever see the money again..

My pal just recd this re cancelled FOS tickets;

Dear jasey's pal,

This is confirmation that the following order has been cancelled.

Booking Reference: 1234567890

Total Price: £nnn.nn (Refunded)

footnote says;
To comply with the UK Government directive, and protect the wellbeing of our staff, we have unfortunately had to temporarily close our phone lines which means we are experiencing an exceptionally high volume of emails. We are also working with a significantly reduced team so it may take us longer than usual to respond.

So looks like they are working through it - Think my pal send the request for refund the day it was officially cancelled.

it'll probably be not having people on site in the same office on the phones, where as emails they can do remotely...

Me and my lad were talking about it again this morning, should have been there now, looks like it would have been fantastic weather for the weekend as well. It's still the one thing/ weekend we have away together without the women, so I'm certainly going to miss it this year.

Bit gutting, but hopefully next year will be back on and a great weekend.
