FoS, Friday vs Sunday differences
Discussion
I’ve attended FoS every year for about 12 years now, but only ever on the Friday. I love it, wander the paddocks from 7am to 9am before it gets busy, then head up towards the top of the hill for the rest of the day for some photography. It’s about as quiet and relaxing as it’s possible to do FoS as a general punter, no crowds all day. In particular the paddocks are pretty amazing at 7am, I'm frequently pretty much alone for the first 45 minutes or so if I plan my route around the static stuff well.
I’m busy elsewhere Thurs-Sat this year so can’t attend, but as I’m free on Sunday I wondered if I would get the same out of it? Is it significantly busier (I see no days have sold out yet this year), particularly early on? And does the shootout reduce the amount of hillclimb action significantly? Friday is pretty relaxed but even so there are frequently long stoppages and breaks in the action, I assumed Sunday might generally be worse for that if the runs are officially timed at that point.

Crowds surrounding the 'main attractions', hoards of Darrens (in Mercedes polo shirts, Bermudas and espadrils) and Tracys (usually hobbling in stilettos), thousands of rugrats barely (if at all) controlled by their sub-'Outnumbered' parents. But don't take my (jaundiced) word for it, see for yourself

Actually, Saturday sold out a while ago. It isn't obvious (not much on the Goodwood website is) but if you see that weekend tickets have sold out you know that at least one of the days has, even if they all show available!Last year, Saturday was the only day to sell out and this year looks like being the same.

Thursday seems busier the last couple of years since the whole Moving motorshow stopped and more cars are going up the hill.

I haven't done Thursday for a couple of years but I am heading down tomorrow on a whim. Whats the deal with things going up the hill now? People doing shake downs or similar (fingers crossed)?
download the app and it will tell you... manufacturer road cars, supercars and first glance, Aston Martin celebration etc... Thursday worked out very well.
The 'highlights batch' contained a good selection of interesting things and a full run of drift cars was an unexpected bonus. The Supercars did plenty of runs which was fine as most were being driven properly.
Definite lack of crowds, so hope it remains unpopular next year!

I can only agree that Thursday was a lovely day at FOS. No significant traffic issues, reasonably busy but never crowded, full paddocks where you could actually see the cars and lots of hill action. Not to mention fabulous weather. Thursday again for me next year. I only hope, as per an earlier poster, it doesn’t get too popular.
