FOS Local Travel Questions
Discussion
Guys we are staying in Pulborough wed/thur/fri and going to FOS thur/fri I need advice on the following please.
Traveling in to FOS on thurs 4th - What time to leave and how long (ish), we are then at the ball so need to go back to Pulborough then back to Goodwood
Leaving on 5th whats the sweet spot time wise.
Paranoid we will be late for the ball after years of trying to get tickets!

Pulborough - Goodwood is less than 30 minutes sticking to the limits unless you hit problems. Be aware that the camera vans are always about over the Festival period.
If you are worried about queues the simplest advice is get to the Festival early and leave early or get there early and leave very late. If you get to the Goodwood area around 7.30am queues are likely to be minimal and if you want to be certain of getting in quickly then aim to arrive at 7am (before everything opens). I have never had a problem getting away on any day, including weekends, providing I leave by 4pm and that's plenty late enough to have seen all I wanted to see if arriving at 7.30am.
If you are trying to arrive between 8am and 10am you are more likely than not to run into the most horrendous jams. Equally if you leave between 5pm and 6pm it is almost certain you'll be caught in jams so leave early or after 8pm.
Thursday is the only possible exception to the above as it's traditionally the quietest day but I still wouldn't take a chance. Saturday and Sunday are the worst.

Honestly you'd need a crystal ball to be sure.
Barring something totally unexpected you should get away at 4pm without any problems. Assuming a rapid turnaround at your hotel you'll be heading back towards heavy traffic leaving the site and definitely going against the flow so you should be ok. What might be a bigger issue is whether the driver will want to get stuck after they have dropped you back. Worth booking well in advance.

I am one of those locals who live very close to the Goodwood Events. I cycle to the events as it is quicker than driving. FoS is about 3.5 miles from my house. I can cycle that in about 20-25 minutes heading up there and about 15-20 minutes cycling home (its down hill).
The ideal solution especially if you're staying in Pulborough & need to get back to change then on the bike again for the ball to arrive nice & sweaty in ones DJ!. Better still if the weather wet & windy.
