Going to the FOS for the first time this year with the wife, we got full 4 day tickets to make the most of it. We are staying at a B&B in nearby Petersfield, question I have is what would people recommend regarding eating at the FOS and also is there any restaurants either in Petersfield or Chichester (or any other nearby area) that people would recommend? A mixture of budgets would be appreciated as it would be nice to go out to a swanky place for a nice meal one night but certainly don't want to go daft every day/night.

Following.

Not for FoS but just because I live in Portsmouth and can never think of a new restaurant to try on a Sunday afternoon when we're bored!

Kewy, you know of any anywhere in area I'll be if you're pretty nearby?

Highly recommend The Nook at Hook, between Warsash and Titchfield. Ate there on Saturday night with the better half to celebrate our anniversary, food and service was outstanding, great wine list too.
Not many tables so best to book in advance.

OP - about 25 miles from P'field but the route is good if you fancy a more scenic route than the A3/M27. Well worth the drive IMO!

From your experience what sort of time does Goodwood finish as there doesn't appear to be a time listed anywhere?

I could give you a couple of suggestions within Portsmouth mate, but its about 25 mins from Goodwood and in all honesty you probably don't want to be venturing into town – much nicer places elsewhere!

Thanks! I'll add it to my 'Restaurants to check out' list – good drive is a big tick, most the time I only want to go for lunch so we can drive some nice roads en route driving

My favourite pubs in that area are the Gribble, just outside Chichester and the Black Rabbit in Arundel, next to the river

There is also a nice pub a few minutes from Chichester at Dell Quay, cannot remember the name though, but right next to the harbour

Chichester town centre you have the usual high street pizza chains,a Cote, 2 good Indian restaurants (Masala City and Indian Gate) 2 Thais with a new one opening up in 5 days time (Giggling Squid) there are 3 fine dining restaurants (Pallant Restaurant, Purchases and Field and Fork) the pub for it`s scenery alone at Dell Quay (Crown and Anchor) is superb and the The Richmond Arms at West Ashling is also very good....book early as all these places will be booked well in advance......personally I`d try to get into the Pallant Restaurant

JSW in Petersfield holds a Michellin star. Pricey but worthy of the star if fine dining is your thing.

Alternatively The Trooper near Steep ( north of Petersfield) does some great, excellent quality food for a pub.

I live in Petersfield and didn't realise JSW had a Michelin star.

The Trooper has a classic car gathering on the second Thursday of the month. (After tonight) the next one will be the Thursday of the FoS, so it would be a good night to try their menu if you want to continue the car theme.

The list does change (Monteque Arms in Beaulieu lost it's star this year but I thought it was excellent!) but apparently its still got it:

0630hrs – car parks open
0700hrs – gates open, providing a great opportunity to look around the paddocks before the action begins
0830hrs – the action on the hillclimb commences (each day of the event)
1830hrs – bars close
1900hrs – event ends

Remembering that it will take a while to get out the car parks if you leave when the track action finishes. I often just stroll the paddocks and let the car parks clear so often not leaving before 7pm.

Midhurst is worth a visit for food - at the bottom of North Street is a very good Indian restaurant and moving up the street there's Seven Fish, The Olive and Vine, The Angel, Faustinos (Tapas bar), Yee Has (Steak bar), Pizza Express (if you really have to!), The Wheatsheaf and The Spread Eagle. Just outside town on the A272 towards Petersfield is The Hamilton Arms - a good Thai restaurant.
