FoS Stag Do Recommedations
Discussion
Greetings
A good friend of mine is getting married in October (I'm joint best man) and he has elected that he would like to go to the FoS as he hasn't been for well over 15 years. I went about three years ago and I still rate it as the best car show I have ever been to. We will dress up in 50s gear just for fun!
We will go with one day tickets combined with the Grandstand option. However, we will do a day at the show and then head to a town for a meal and a few beers for collapsing into bed.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a town nearby with a a bit of nightlife? I did originally look at Chicester, but a brief search on Booking.com suggests this is prohibitively expensive. My attention then turned to Portsmouth, but as I expected they are wise to to the FoS event and accommodation is £150-180 a night per room. However, I know Portsmouth does have some decent pubs, so could still be a good shout.
Anyone got any suggestions? Camping could be an option, as my firiend does several VW shows a year and usually camps. One option could be set up camp on Friday night, Goodwood on Saturday, back to site, then out on Saturday night somewhere and back to campsite.

I'd be tempted to go camping - the FoS is a busy event, so getting to and from any nearby large towns with nightlife (Guildford, Portsmouth etc) is not going to be easy. Public transport is almost non existent (I live nearby).
If there's a few of you, I would imagine camping could be a good laugh - particularly if it's dry weather!

Chichester - Nightlife. Classic oxymoron. Indeed West Sussex and Nightlife .....!!
Worthing might be an option, I think there's a club or two there.
TBH finding affordable accomodation within a 20 mile radius of FOS would be a rare beast, all the innkeepers jack their prices up for anything Goowood related.

I’m not sure how dressing up in 50’s gear fits in with FOS surely that would be the revival?
As you’ve already noted everywhere is ridiculously expensive as everyone knows it’s FOS. Have you tried butlins in Bognor? Also if you are travelling in you need to be on site no later than 0800 if you want to avoid traffic and by the time you’ve looked around you’ll never see your grandstand or many pubs after, I think I average around 15miles at FOS over 12hours and then fall asleep ready for the next day.

Fair point. We were originally looking at the revival, but my mate would prefer to do FoS. I would still be up for Revival as I've never done it. Might float that one past him again. We have looked at camping, but I'm struggling to find somewhere locally that isn't the Goodwood camping site. I agree that camping could be more fun. Camp site would need to accommodate a large group (Maybe 10 blokes)
I'm all ready thinking that we should stay somewhere on friday night, go for a meal and a few beers and then go to the FoS on the Saturday and head out afterwards.
I'm also weary that Saturday at FoS will be an exhausting day. Last time I went, I travelled there and back in my mates Noble. That was very uncomfortable and noisy. There was a radio, but neither of us could hear it!
I'm not saying it'll be any good (as I've not had a night out there), but have you looked at Gunwharf Quays? TigerTiger nightclub is there.

As 9.3 said finding decent accommodation near Goodwood for 10 blokes at a reasonable price on the FoS weekend will be tricky. Even expensive nearby accommodation for 10 blokes this near to the event could be difficult.
However, there are a fair few camping/caravan sites south of Chichester if you are not too fussed about camping and want to stay local. Bunn's Leisure is one.You just need to think about your transport in the morning if you have been on a bender the night before as you'll probably be over the limit.
The other downside is Selsey Bill is not known for it's throbbing night life.
Portsmouth is probably best for nightlife locally. You can get the train to Chichester and bus/taxi to the FoS whilst nursing the hangovers. I've had some monster ones when living in Portsmouth. There are plenty of hotels such as the Hilton, Premier Inn etc. You just need to book fairly sharpish.
I've never really done Gunwharf for a night out. It came along after I had children/mortgage/receding hairline. The youngsters at work always seemed to have a good time there though.
I did do one stag night down Albert Road that was rather good, though it did get a bit messy towards the end. I'm not sure what it's like down there now.

As long as you have a beard or tattoos you’ll be fine. It’s certainly the place to go in Portsmouth if you want constant pubs intermixed with some very good food venues, although personally I prefer central southsea and old Portsmouth slightly quieter and in my eyes better for good beer and food. I'm just bias as I lived down Gains road for a couple of years. Southsea was a bus/taxi away. Albert road was walking/crawling distance away, as was Fifth Avenue which shows you that my info might be slightly out of date ! I now go to Albert Road to take the children to the Panto in the Kings Theatre.
Thanks for all the replies. I'm still waiting on the attendee list from the stag and until I get that, I'm in limbo land.
I've been looking at campsites and I can't seem to find anything that will accept a large group camping. AirBnB had some available for some big houses in Southsea (Expensive), but as the days roll on, I expect the availability will probabaly go.
The more I progress, the more I think FoS is a bad idea. Its the accommodation that's making it difficult. May revert back to Karting at Buckmore Park!

I think you’re better off with karting followed by a trip to the pub. I’ve attended 3 stag parties that have had karting, off roading element and they’re the stories that always get told how someone rolled a buggy, crashed into a fence who beat who and so on.
