Goodwood bag check
Discussion
As has been mentioned before bag checks now at every entrance to FoS. I've just arrived on the 'quietest' day and if you have a bag, BIG queue. If you don't you are getting waved through to the front.
I know it's impossible for a lot of people but if you can live without a rucksack, pack light.

Would be interesting to get an idea of how small a bag will get waved through.
I was planning on a rucksack but could get away with a very small camera bag (small handbag size).
If that's going to get checked anyway I may as well not compromise what I can carry with me and take the rucksack. I'll be there by 6:30am but usually a good sized queue at that time anyway.

I arrived at about 07:30 at the entrance just next to the motor show area and queued for about 45 minutes to get in whilst watching loads of people with bags simply walk straight through the no bag line... When I finally got to the search area, where the army of 4 searchers were fighting a losing battle against the tide of punters the search was so cursory I could have smuggled in half a kilo of Semtex.
Apparently, a little later, it got so bad that they abandoned the whole thing.
It'll be interesting to see what they bother doing tomorrow. I certainly won't be bringing another bag.
This had nothing to do with safety and everything to do with Goodwood ticking boxes in order to appease their insurers.

I was near the front of the queue when the gates opened, so they were still quite zealous... -ish
Security bloke: "Got anyting in your camera bag, chap?"
Me (deciding to ignore that some people paying good money might object to being called "chap" by a flunkie): "Yes. A camera."
Security bloke: "Ahh, sweet"
Me: "Do you want to check it?"
Security Bloke: "Nahh, 's all good, bra'a"
The Lord Harry alone knows what Tarquin with the maroon trousers made of being addressed thusly

As someone who knows a proper security check when he sees one I have to say today's was cursory at best. I don't really mind how a security detail (obviously minions to some and no forlock tugged or bow made offends) addresses me but would prefer a proper check or no check. Rest of the day really good and process of arrival/exit easy and pleasurable
