Morning Chaps,

Heading down on Friday for a change this year....normally do a weekend day so used to sitting in heavy traffic around the last few roundabouts as I approach the area (From the West)...

I assume Fridays arent as busy in the actual event, but we have the addition of Friday work traffic? How are Fridays normally?

Thanks in advance...

There's also the traffic heading to the tennis at Eastbourne to consider on Friday, especially if you're heading to GW from the West.

Always worth it, especially for FoS! Car parks open at 0630 smile

We always think we are leaving early enough, with the intention of getting there at 8am (I'm 120miles away). Will give ourselves another 30mins...

I leave the house at 4:15am, drive straight into the car park at 6:20ish, stand around for 30 minutes in the queue and then straight in as gates open (and that's the plan again this year, particularly as security will be tighter)

a) Lovely quiet drive
b) The paddocks at 7am are absolute bliss
c) Can finish the paddocks and be heading up through the manufacturer stands before it gets silly busy
d) Nice spot near the top of the hill as the batches get underway.

Driving home isn't particularly pleasant due to usual Friday commuter traffic around Chichester. I had to leave at 3pm last year due to a wedding but even after driving straight out it was pretty solid for 30-45 minutes. This year I'm hanging around until the event closes and then heading home.

With how busy Friday is these days that's my approach to make it as stress free as possible. It works pretty well

Paddock at 7:15am...

Cartier Lawn at 7:30am...

Really ? ,...they might both be near the A27 but also 50+ miles apart.

Which way would people go if they were heading to Eastbourne from the west then? Round the M25 during rush hour?

We're going Friday. Leaving at 6am so should get there for 7:30ish. Would that be ok for traffic?

I'm a regular for Thursday and Friday. The only answer to the traffic is to get to Goodwood by 7.30. The difference between 7.30 and 7.45 is remarkable, not only for the weight of traffic attending but the rush hour traffic.

As for leaving the Friday, if you want to get to the M23/M25 then A27 dual carriageway, not particularly pleasant, but generally moving and turn off on the A29 through Amberleigh, struggle through Storrington, and then a slowish drive to the Washington roundabout. Turn left onto the A24. If heading further east then turn off on the 272 and onto the A/M23. Not the quickest by the most pleasant. This route avoids Arundel and Worthing, both seemingly interminable at times.

I'm coming from Coventry for Friday and its my first year at the FOS. I'm trying to work out whats the best way there home and back. I can go use the M40 then A34, M3, M27 towards Portsmouth, or I can take the M40, M25 and the A3.

Which route is the best?

Cheers

I'm coming from Newbury. Would I be better on the A339 (via Basingstoke) or the A34 (via Winchester)? Leaving at 6am, so may hit some rubbish traffic unfortunately.

I think you'll find that avoiding the M25 will be preferable, unless you intend to be round it and off onto the A3 before 06:00.

Regarding your alternative: you may find a queue at the southern end of the A34 towards the Winnall (Winchester) roundabout where the A34 joins the M3 Jctn 9, but if you aim to get to that roundabout before 08:00 you should find that the queue isn't significant. After that, the M3/M27/A27 will be busy, but not M25-style bad.

In the evening you'll find that the only choke point will be where the northern end of the A34 meets the M40, but it will still be better than sitting on the M25.
Thanks for the advice! Seems like the best route for me. Hoping to leave mine at 5am providing the missus will be ready! (not holding onto much hope)
