Hi,

I'm contemplating bringing my kids (6&10) along this Sunday. Is it suitable?

Aside from getting there early (presumably before 8am) are there any other tips?

I assume it is held at the circuit, not the house?

We have been to FOS and Revival a few times now but can't make either this year.

Cheers.

If you can wake them up, they will be fine and if they are budding petrol heads, they will love it.

Yes the circuit.

Getting there before 8 is a good start thumbup

Kids generally very welcome and if they ask the owners they may even get to sit in their favourite cars for photos. Food is good, albeit a little on the pricey side as it is sourced from the estate, although portion sizes were also good last time I was there.

If your kids like cars then they will almost certainly tick most of their "spotted" boxes on the day if the weather stays dry. It is also worth a bit of a stroll round the car parks as there is always a few unexpected exotics parked up.

They will certainly enjoy it. It will be extremely busy but hopefully enjoyable for them, as mentioned food is organic and from the estate so expect to pay prices that reflect that, however as it's free to get in buying a bacon baguette is like an entry fee.

I've had friends bring their kids and they seemed to enjoy it.

Also, with this one being Supercar Sunday, there's a big wow factor for youngsters seeing supercars or hypercars.

Children always welcome at such events but only if well behaved. Please don't plonk them in cars without the owners permission ( yes it DOES happen) or allow their sticky fingers to roam over lovely bodywork. Sadly too many owners park up & avoiding all eye contact walk off as if it's beneath their dignity to interact with the peasants. This happens especially at the Goodwood meets, the more expensive the car the more stuck up the owner. So all credit to those owners who well remember their childhood & the thrill of sitting in their dream car & welcome the youngsters interest.
For examples of how children out of parental control around lovely new cars visit Mercedesworld Weybridge on any week-end. It's bedlam.

I watched with horror a cherub run his "matchbox / hot wheels" car up and down the side of the blue SLR that was parked on the straight today whilst daddy took photos.

WTF ??? Have some respect for other people's hard earned. My kids go everywhere with me, and they'd never dream of doing something like this. And if they did, they wouldn't sit down for a week...

"Oh, mind the car darling"

Smack round the earlobes in coming...pfffttthhh..grrr etc

Well - we made it. Kids up and out the door by 6. Arrived by about 7:15 and greeted by the sigh of a pair of F40s passing in front of us.

We have a good few hours of massively excited kids and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was really good and generally a nice way to pass the day.

With regards to kids behaviour my kids were of course impeccably behaved as always. In all seriousness I have seen kids being inconsiderate at other shows but I saw none of that at today. I did see a few adults leaning against the paintwork for photo ops etc!! Perhaps its the adults that need a prompt rather than the kids?

With regard to stuck up owners, I didn't see any of that today either. My eldest who is obsessed with Ferraris had a good chat with an F40 owner and I spoke to a few owners as well. The owner of the Carrera GT in particular was friendly and approachable.

On the exit road, a friendly wave from the kids resulted in many loud passes from the cars leaving the show.

All in all a nice day out and its a credit to the organisers that they manage to arrange such a popular and friendly event without charging an entry fee!

(Edit for typos!)

So I've been attending for a fair few years and I'd say no owner is snobbish, however yesterday I think I met the most welcoming to date.

We were looking around the Lamborghini below when the owner (with driving gloves and interesting suit) came over apologised that he was shutting the doors to go to breakfast but would answer any questions now and would be back to open up the car again to allow people to view after he's eaten.

What a top bloke!

There was a few children / parents there that needed a slap.
Walking along the grid there was a family behind us with 3 kids all running up to / into and hands over the cars. One of them holding onto and hanging off the wing mirror of a Porsche which luckily it stayed attached

Great day but its rather strange that some parents thought it was completely ok for their 4 young kids to all ride around on scooters and for them to ride right up against the grey Ferrari TDF in the paddock! One slip from the young child and the car would have had a bad scratch or dent! I really struggle to understand how parents can think that's acceptable when you look at the high value of the cars on display! Also loads of people with dogs as well - very strange as not the ideal environment!

As I said in the other Goodwood thread, this is the reason I wouldn't park my car up on the grid.

When I used to go to the breakfast meets, you had the die hard car fans out and they'd bring their kids. You could see the adults respected the cars and in turn the kids were the same. Petrolheads in the making.

So many families there on Sunday just seemed to turn up for a free day out and let their kids maul the cars. Wound me right up!

Supercar Sunday has become the go to free day out for non car people it would seem. Charge them at the door, or no admission if not wearing mustard or f**king red troosers!
