Settrington cup kids race
Discussion
Well - I would write to Lord March to test the water.
Many of the kids taking part are children of people who have a connection or long time association with Goodwood. Children and Grandchildren of people like Nick Mason, Patrick Blakeney-Edwards and Bobbie Verdon-Roe seem to take part. My friend is a BV-R's cousin and also a grandson of Alliot Verdon-Roe the pioneer of aviation which I imagine helped.
Worth a try though - there seem to be loads of other kids there who don't have a particular connection with Goodwood as far as I know - my friend is not a member but it can't hurt.

Whilst not a fan of it myself we had a friends son takepart over the weekend, and they are certainly not a hooray.
As for a lot of other competitiors they are the children of the drivers and riders and whilst in a fortunate position again aren’t hoorays.
However for all of us that hate it there was a large crowd that love it. The crowd was 3 deep of spectators along the straight and I know numerous friends of the Mrs that tunes in online to watch it.
For those of us who are not interested it’s an opportunity to have a loo break and some food.
I should also add that as Mr Francittis child came low down the pack when he becomes a famous driver our friends child can recite the day he beat Francitti Jnr.

I find it a bit laughable that people are getting angered about that specific race being elitist.
It's the Goodwood revival! Hardly the last bastion of the common man. I think every race over the whole weekend has a pretty high financial entry.
I love the event but it is teetering on the edge of being for the over privileged and looking like a Nigel Farage fancy dress party.
How are the kiddies pedal cars the target?!
Slightly amusing....

I love the kids race. To me, I am THAT kid. I would be so excited to take part. It's where the excitement of cars begins.
As for Goodwood being elitist, I'm not so sure. It's full of ordinary people 'scrubbing up well'. Mind you, the lady we shared a Goodwood event Taxi back to the Goodwood Hotel was anxious her helicopter would take off in the rain. I'm sure she'd have dropped us of if we'd been on the way. It's that kind of place.
