Revival Newbie

Husband and I are attending the Revival all 3 days. We've got a good handle on what to wear. I'm wondering what we should be sure not to miss; having never been to such an event before it's hard to imagine what it will all be like. On the Sunday we splurged for the Goodwood Mess to hopefully get even more up and personal. This may well be a once in a lifetime trip for us coming from the US. We are staying in Midhurst so hopefully not much of a commute. Thank you for any tips!

enjoy it... it will go fast!don't try to see everything all in one go and take your time... and get around to the other side of the track (st marys corner) to watch the racing for at least a few hours... thats the best place to see the cars in action!
When you are watching the racing you will be very close to the action. It is nothing like a modern circuit, you will be able to get a good view of the on track action. The fencing around the track is maybe 4 foot high and probably about 10-15 foot from the edge of the track in places. Inside the circuit and around the paddock area you can get right up close to the cars and talk to the drivers and mechanics. Outside the track along the start finish straight area are displays of cars and other vintage displays. There are groups of character actors all around the area who are fun.
Friday is mostly qualifying and practise and not so busy; I find it is a good day to look around the paddock area and see some of the cars and other displays just outside the track
I make sure I find a good spot to watch the first race that starts in the late afternoon and goes on into the dusk. It can get a little cooler on a summer evening so worthwhile having a jacket to put on.
After the racing is done you could look around the shopping and stalls in the 'over the road' area. If you leave it a bit later then the traffic will usually have cleared a bit.
Saturday and Sunday are both full race days, there's a lot of on the track action as well as around the track so impossible to see everything - I tend to check the prgram for the races I want to see and make my way to a vantage point while the previous race is finishing. The start line and that side of the circuit is very busy so unless you have a grandstand seat you are better making your way around to St Mary's or Lavant corner which will be less busy (but not much).
When I'm not watching races I go around the displays and infield areas.
Saturday evening is another chance to look around the over the road area while I wait for the traffic to clear. There's usually some live music too.
Sunday evening after the last race they hold the prize giving on the start finish straight with all the winning cars parked there and the track is open for you to wander around the cars.
The race program will let you know the running order and help you plan your day. The timing will vary a bit on the day depending on events but they normally keep to the schedule pretty well. The earpiece radio will help you keep up with the status of races even when you aren't watching.
At peak times he traffic is very heavy. To avoid the worst of the traffic I would try to get there as early as you can and leave as late as you can.

Thank you for sharing the pictures; they are incredible! It is going to be overwhelming with great cars. And planes. And people.
Being regular "joes" I don't think we get paddock access generally, but should with the Mess hospitality on Sunday. At least that is how it was sold to me.
We've never been to the UK outside of Scotland, so everything will be new to us. This is going to be a great adventure1

The paddock with the most valuable exotica requires a pass, which it sounds like the Mess hospitality gives you. The rest of the paddocks are open to regular "joes" to wander around at will all weekend.Have a great time.
If you are going to walk around the track walk the opposite way to the cars then you can watch the action. Check the air display times because they close various walk ways around the track due to safety and they can be closed for up to 45 minutes. At some point go and watch at St Mary's corner and finally if you don't want to bring your own food use the vintage telcos for sandwiches, snacks. Enjoy!

The Bonhams auction is worth a visit to see some of the metal going under the hammer, and always a good way to rest your feet.
If you have an older car make sure you get a pass to the right car park, in fact you can spend hours wandering around the car park which is like the biggest free car show ever.
Dressing in period stuff is also a lot of fun and doesn't need to be a costly affair. Whatever you choose to wear make sure you have comfortable footwear.

What should we be sure to take with us? Camera, obviously. Would we want binoculars? Food? Are their prepaid picnic baskets worthwhile? Something you wish you'd thought to take with you previous visits? We're schlepping across the Atlantic and starting to think about packing for a 2+ week away.

Bi-noculars... yes, not harm in bringing them if you have a small lightweight pair..What should we be sure to take with us? Camera, obviously. Would we want binoculars? Food? Food, yes, i'd say bring your own...
ermm... good shoes to walk in if you're planning on walking the track...
lightweight waterproofs... when it rains the period dress code can be "ignored" when needed...
camera batteries.... camera memory cards!
hot weather gear.... wet weather gear... cold weather gear...
Re the food. There is a vintage style Tesco that stocks loads of sandwiches, gourmet ones as well as basic. Often on a 'meal deal' promotion where 1 sandwich, bag of crisps and a drink cost £3. I aim to get there first thing in the morning, then walk round to the start of the tractor rides which take you round the circuit.

Not this year. Tesco's contract has ended.
