Goodwood FoS previous winners
Discussion
Afternoon all,
I'd previously put a post up in the general motorsport section, and then someone suggested that this section might be a better home for it.
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...
I'm trying to compile a full list of previous FoS Shootout winners and times. I've got about 3/4 of the way through, so I'm hoping people might be able to fill in the blanks - I've heard that there's a book or something that GRRC members get which might have the info?
So far we have -
2016 - Olly Clark, 46.23s
2015 - Olly Clark, 44.91s
2014 - Sebastien Loeb, 44.6s

Not sure how to edit so here goes.
There are not results in the books for 1993-1997.
1998 was Nick Heidfeld in Mclaren-Mercedes MP4/12 48.30s
2001 was David Franklin in Ferrari 712 48.26s
2005 was Justin Law in Jaguar XJR147.96s
2006 was Richard Lyons in Nissan 350Z GT500 49.51s
2007 was Anthony Reid in Nissan 350Z GT500 53.78s (WET)
These are all out of the books and as already stated before 1998 there was no results listed, 2007 was not great weekend weather wise. I have witnessed numerous runs by Justin Law over the years and they stand out for me as epic especially considering the size of the Group C Jaguars.

I thought my mate Olly was doing well by getting back-to-back wins, I didn't realise though that Justin Law had taken it 5 times and "Quick Nick" 3 times......I'll tell him he needs to up his game for the years to come and move past Anthony Reid's score!!

Very good list that. I'm always wondering why modern hill climbers like Scott Moran aren't invited, I think theres a very real chance the hill record would go. His Gould has around 200hp more than GW Jr's although the V8 is a fair bit heavier than the old V6.
Also surprised that Olly Clark didn't get invited back this year, with over 900hp now from Gobstopper 2 and good weather conditions it would have been interesting to see if he could have bettered Loeb's time.

^^ this.
Matt and Olly weren't expecting to be invited back for a third attempt until the new car is built and ready. Nobody has ever won it more than two years running in the same car (Heidfeld's triple wins were in different cars), the organisers like to vary things if they can. They'd have leapt at the chance if they'd been invited, but it gives them time to get the new weapon built, and hope to be back in 2018

I don't think they have any interest in anyone getting close to the record. Whilst it's generally a safe place it's clearly not built to permanent hill climb standards. The main corners are well protected but everywhere else is only one bale high and two deep. There are few circuits or climbs that have genuinely uncomfortable places to stand any more (Castle Combe had one until a few years back), but FoS has several that a big freak accident in one of those locations doesn't bear thinking about.
I think you're right there. The commentators alluded to as much yesterday in giving a reason why the contemporary F1 cars don't do timed runs anymore - you only need to watch the video of Heidfeld's record time to know how on-the-limit he was. The timed section is only one part of the festival not the sole raison d'etre, so it's not an out-and-out competitive event, like Harewood or Shelsley Walsh
Thanks Bob, you're a legend!! List now complete and up to date as of this year
