Why they can't use an off the shelf piece of forum software like PH I'll never know
I just spent 10 mins looking for it and couldn't find it so thanks for those instructions. It's well hidden! Also WOW the sections are a bit in your face with massive fonts. Not yet worked out where anything is. As you say why the hell do they have to sod around with it is beyond me. They could use something like P'Heads and be done with it. Why they can't use an off the shelf piece of forum software like PH I'll never know

Goodwood never seem to do anything the easy way the new forum is dreadful! There are many free forum products out there that all more or less use the same format so people feel comfortable finding their way around but no, Goodwood have to do something different. One would expect add/change avatar to be in profile but no, it's not there. Also I'd like to see latest posts, unanswered posts, see just my own posts, be able to organise posts by date order, use smileys etc. all basic stuff but from what I can see all missing. For some reason there does seem to be a reluctance to criticise Goodwood but I have to say their IT is shockingly poor!

Totally agree - it much too complicated and frustratingly difficult to use...LDM said:
Any ideas how you change avatar etc.
I worked it out by looking at where someone else's was hosted! You have to create an account at www.gravatar.com and upload your avatar there.

Totally agree - it much too complicated and frustratingly difficult to use...Their issue seems to me to be that the forum is so quiet that they wonder whether it is worth investing much time and money on it. They don't seem to understand it's quiet because you can't bloody find it and when you do its unintuitive and therefore people don't persevere. Those that do generally can come across a little negatively toward the club so that puts other people off joining in.
Making it easy to use and easy to find would be a good start! But is it worth their while.....

The new site is pretty but harder to navigate - the forums are a bit of a shambles; I've always thought the PH forum software was st but at least it's functional. Why they don't just use some off the shelf stuff like phpBB escapes me - if I was the Goodwood web team, would I want to be writing and maintaining forum software or concentrating on making a better site...?
The content looks good though. Seems that quite a few well known faces from Haymarket are writing for them now...

A link to a few FAQ's that have been asked further up this thread regarding the GRRC forum:

It's variable. The Server Error seems to regularly effect the top menu bar and the bit at the side that is supposed to show Hot Topics, but most of the time I am still able to read the actual forums. I don't know how much is accessible if you're not logged in, luckily I still am. ~iw
That might be my problem Ian, I cannot stay signed in, it logs me out each time and I am getting the server error when trying to sign back in. Gassing Station | Goodwood Events | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
