I maybe heading down there - not seen anything like this before up at good wood - depends on weather and how chilly the winds are!

I don't think the auto solo will be a good spectating sport. As for participating I've put some thought into it and actually think I may be better off borrowing my mothers Hyundai Getz to get round the course.

I plan to pop along and look at some point. I've never seen one before so I want to see if it looks like something worth taking part in.

Popped down to watch this today, looked like a lot of fun. The driver of the Sierra Cosworth was beaming as he put his (rather lovely) car through it's paces.

Some other nice stuff also scattered around in the car parks.

Added a few photos to my Goodwood Various Album here...

Yes it certainly looked like the competitors were having great time. From the description I was expecting something like the old car club gymkhanas but this was a lot more exciting. The driver of the yellow Caterham was having a particularly furious drive, the Spridget before it soon learned to move forward a few extra yards from the finishing posts!

Thanks for the pictures, that's my Morgan looking less than pretty in hood up configuration for the winter.

So that's where the cossie was going yesterday. I passed it on a trailer heading along the M27 towards Goodwood. Was immaculate.

Excellent. Thanks for taking a few of me in my Turner. Not sure about the face I'm pulling. I was concentrating!

I had wanted to have a go at Autosolo for some time, partly from reading about Steve Cropley doing one. Last year me and a couple of mates started doing them. Now, after doing 6 events I've had enough.

You'll need to arrive at the venue for around 8am for scrutineering, signing on and drivers briefing. The event won't start until 9:30 and will finish at anything upto 5 or 6 including the awards.

You'll do 18 runs over a day if they can fit them in, that adds up to around 16 minutes of driving and costs £32, so £2 per minute of driving. If it takes you 2 hours to get to the event and the same home then you've had a 13 to 14 hour day for 16 minutes of competitive driving. You have to queue for each of the runs, generally for 20 to 45 minutes at a time to do a 40 to 60 second run.

They often don't manage all the runs though, the previous event had so many competitors that over the day only 12 runs were completed adding up to only 10 minutes of competitive time, I'd left home at 5:30am and didn't get back until 8pm.

On top of this the often mentioned friendly atmosphere is generally very lacking, the regulars are like the locals in a yokel village, treating outsiders with contempt.

The events are supposed to be on a sealed surface yet often are on old WWII airfields with rough broken concrete and gravel, so be prepared to get punctures.

The idea you'll go in a road car and be competitive is nonsense as those regulars turn up with stripped out lowered, roll caged, polybushed, bucket seated, grip steering wheeled semi rally cars. The MSA blue book rules aren't followed very closely for the regulars.

I would say you get what you pay for, but, actually they are very expensive in real terms so you don't.
