Revival Queues
Discussion
Evening all,
I went on my motorbike today alongside a buddy (just to see what people were taking, more than anything) and sat by the Racecourse at the top of the hill. Loads of really pretty stuff trundling by, and more than a couple of very hot and steamy looking motors with bonnets up (hope everything cooled down eventually!)
We sat there for a couple of hours or so enjoying the view - there was a queue all the way back down to Singleton when we arrived, and that was around 0930. We left at 11ish and the traffic was pretty solid to Cocking. in fact, some had given up and were tucking into picnics and drinks by the side of the road! As we rode back through Midhurst, there were still beautiful old motors clearly on the way to the Revival, so here's the question:
When did you set off from home, when did you expect to get in and, crucially, when did you actually get in?

Made the mistake of going off the A27 north up Claypit Lane as directed by the signs trying to get into the pre 75 car park, drove passed the circuit entrance and then over the New Road round about and directed into general parking along with a lot of pre 75 cars. Then spent 30-40mins waiting to come south through the car park over New road to the pre 75 car park. A lot of pre 75 cars got fed up and just parked in the normal car park. Will do what we normally do on Sunday and keep going east and come in via the A285.

If i am going to Goodwood from London, which direction is best to avoid the traffic? I'm guessing the main pinch point is down the obvious midhurst-cocking-singleton route.
Would diverting to the west at midhurst to south harting, then down the B2141 and into east lavant be a worthwhile exercise?

I do A3 to Petersfield and cut across to Soth Harting from there, then across to Lavant. I went yesterday which is the quietest day and the queues were bad for those arriving later. But I think my route avoids the worst of them and takes you along some nice driving roads. Just watch out for the police.
The event gets busier & more expensive every year & now is almost intolerable, but I'm sure his Earlship is rubbing his hands in glee. He once admitted in a television interview & in a glossy magazine article that the best business advice he was ever given was & I quote "Increase your prices every year irrespective of prevailing trade conditions".
As for the queues.....Friday was & still is the slightly quieter day & unless you are desperate see the on-track qualifying & actual races why struggle with the week-end hoards?
On Friday I arrived within a mile of a public car park at 6.45am & for the first time ever had to queue but only for about 10minutes.(have been to every Revival & FoS). Blagged my way into the Staff car park, but was still a long way from the field exit to the circuit so re-parked when the marshals had moved away & finished up with less than a 100 yards to the main gate. More blagging got me into the circuit before the gates opened to the general public but if I told you how & why I would have to kill you all !!!!. Left at 3pm with no delays at all. Smug? You bet.

I clearly hit a very bad time on Friday then. I left home at 7:50am and we hit the end of the queue just after the bend at the top of the hill from Singleton at 8:35 am. From there the traffic crawled until we reached the junction at the racecourse at 9:05. We were then not allowed down the hill but directed left alongside the racecourse (negotiating a broken down Bentley) and then right, down the road past the hotel. We finally parked at 09:45.
Saturday couldn't have been more different. As it was a "family" day I didn't manage to get everyone out of the house until 8:20am and given my experience the day before I was expecting to arrive about lunchtime! We sailed through, with only a short queue on Kennels hill which moved swiftly and we were parked at 9:15.
Friday journey time: 1 hour 55 mins
Saturday journey time: 55 mins.

Very strange yesterday.
It normally takes me around 2 hours to drive from home to Goodwood for a non-event such as a trackday.
Yesterday it took me just a few minutes longer than normal (parked up by 8.15)
and getting out of the car park in the evening just after the last race was unbelievably quick,
and we were back home in well under the normal time partly due to a well running M25.
