It's been at least 5 (maybe more!?) years since i last went to the Revival an we've got General Entrance tickets for the Sunday. So we intend to watch a few of the races and wander the site but can someone remind me:

Is access to the circuit interior (i.e the paddock, etc) only accessible by the 1 tunnel?

Can you spectate and see the racing action from inside the circuit when you've crossed over the tunnel? without grandstand tickets?

Are the Paddocks entirely closed to non GRRC members?

Are the Tractor stops that take you out to the further corners for GRRC members only or can anyone jump on?

Can you access the start line or the finish chicane as a normal GE ticket holder without going into the Grandstand? In the normal grass viewing bank areas?

I've answered a lot of my questions from the Goodwood website but would like some input from regular attendees on PH that know the score with this event.

Tunnel under start finish and another under Woodcote straight

No

The paddocks with the permanent sheds are GRRC only, although you can see most things by looking over the fence. Temporary tent type paddock area is open to all.

For anyone, although the queues can get a bit long, quicker to walk!

Not exactly on the start line, I think you can get to juts after start. Chicane, you can get quite close.

The main road tunnel is open to all pedestrians, I seem to remember that the small tunnel is reserved for GRRC members only.

I'm pretty sure that even GRRC members can't watch from the inside of the circuit anywhere around the startline but I think anyone can get into a small area near the inside of the chicane exit.
You can also walk from the top of the paddock areas across the airfield to the inside of the Lavant Straight where there is another tunnel to the outside of the circuit.
I took a large party of newbies to Revival 3 years ago and we lugged tables, chairs, food and drink over there and set up camp just above the tunnel, they had a great day at an excellent viewing spot with facilities close at hand.

Yes and no, as John said.

I usually walk down the outside of the circuit to Lavant Bend as the tractors are chock full going there from the entrance, the queue to get on them at Lavant Bend is a lot smaller so you can catch one back from there if you don't want to walk the full circuit.

Can you access the start line or the finish chicane as a normal GE ticket holder without going into the Grandstand? In the normal grass viewing bank areas?

Yes in some areas but people do set up their chairs by the fence for the day very early and it gets crowded so you have to look between and over their heads.

Enjoy your day and don't forget to dress in keeping, the best motor racing event of the year in my view, shame I can't make it this year due to other commitments.

The start finish line tunnel is "meant" to be for badge holders only with non-members using the main road tunnel. Clearly many non-badge wearers blag it but don't be offended if one of the marshals asks you politely to show your GRRC badge or equivalent badge.

It'll be busy, 7am is normally quite quiet though

I'm assuming Sunday morning will be even worse then? Is it best to go through Arundel and stay on the A27 if your coming from the southeast?

It's quite hard to see much from the bank by the chicane as so many people congregate there. Depends how tall you are.
In the past, when we've gone without grandstand tickets, we've tended to end up on the bank at Madgwick, where one can get a pretty good view.

I always aim to time my arrival for 7.00am, it may sound silly early but that's when the car parks open and by the time you've parked and walked into the circuit the stalls will be starting to open up, there is usually some sort of air display at around 8.30am and you can take an early look around the paddock or get yourself an advantageous position to view the racing.

At that time of the day there will be no hold ups on the A27 and you just follow the signs into the circuit, the later you leave it the longer it will take to get in.

Indeed, I always take grandstand seats but also take a walk round the circuit. There are many good vantage points to watch the cars yet people so seem to congregate in the 50 yards of fencing space at the edge of Woodcote!

Thanks for the help in answering my questions for the Revival it helped me and the misses make the most of the day on Sunday.

i don't expect any of the following to be ground breaking or never been said before but....

Having not been to the Revival for perhaps 7 years (maybe more), i was surprised at how much the event has grown and changed (nearly all for the better, a little for the worst). The attention to detail to recreate the period was second to none. I'm glad we choose to make an effort with the clothing as i estimate that 95% of people were in period or very smartly dressed! I heard lots of different accents and nationalities and saw many different number plates suggesting this is a huge event globally. Racing aside, the side shows, music and theatre that is put on is great part of the event and not to be missed. incredible how many people are attending the Revival purely for the lifestyle side of the event.

We thought that the "Over the Road" and fun fair area was good but a large amount of very similar stalls offering vintage clothing or restoration services. I wonder how much business this generates and was surprised that you could access this area without a ticket.

I could of spent a lot more time just looking round the car parks at this event and it's only a shame that they can't somehow incorporate some of this into the event a little better. Not a criticism but only a thought to how displaying some more of these vintage cars would add to the event.

My one bad thing:-

I was surprised at the amount of areas/bars/restaurants/eateries that were badge holder / VIP only. Not sure if i am the only one that feels that way and perhaps the badge holder / VIPs like the exclusivity of this but i think events like this should be inclusive to everyone. If you're dressed in period and have purchased a ticket i can't see the need to restrict an area, for it is unlikely you'll have attracted the wrong type of person to need to exclude in the first place.

Does it make me think about becoming a GRRC member.... Yes possibly but it's a shame that it's not possible to enjoy every aspect without this need. I would be interested to hear what other people make of this? Do GRRC members feel like they got good value or exclusive treatment?

At £500 minimum per person for a single day of hospitality, there is no way that this event will lose the VIP/Hospitality areas. There are plenty of places to eat around the circle without being part of a 'club', you just have to know where to go.

What you describe is the Members Meet and yes, GRRC membership only, although it has been opened up to others each year so far so your chances are good without joining up.

The "Over the Road" is a great addition as it has meant far more space can be devoted to the fun fair, trade stands and food area with impinging on the inner circuit. It also means that the crowds are less compacted into the one area around the main gate, especially at lunch times and people hang around a bit after the event relieving pressure on the car park exits. All in all a great innovation.

The only additional food area open for GRRC members is the members marquee and frankly I don't bother with the food in there as I really don't want a roast dinner or plate of lasagne at lunch time. That said the bar is slightly cheaper and the loos are better.
